Factory mic with aftermarket radio?

I'm installing a JVC double din with Bluetooth and I was wondering if anyone has found a way to cut and splice the aftermarket microphone cable and tie it in to the factory hands free mic instead of using the one that came with the radio. I've heard of this being done in other vehicles but have never attempted it. I haven't been able to find a diagram for the mic so any input is appreciated!

Looks like you may have to mod the HFL unit to pass through the signal. From the attached schematic (2004-2007) it looks like it connects to the HFL unit (up in the roof console) and then another shielded cable runs to the audio unit. What does/doesn't pass through passively is unknown. My guess is you can hack the HFL unit to pass it through if you are comfortable with soldering/desoldering items. Or it may be possible to just disconnect both from the HFL and jumper some connectors up in the roof console and not even mess with the actual HFL unit itself (which are sought after and better not to trash)

Even then it's unknown if the HFL mic will be compatible with what you need for JVC HU. So you could end up with a mess any way. I'd just run the new mic up to the roof console. It's not to hard to run it up the pillar and across the headliner in front of the sun shades.

Thanks. Ive decided to just run the new mic. Thought I'd try to get fancy since I do car audio install professionally but I've talked to a few experienced guys and they kinda said the same thing... It's a gamble and may just be a mess

Is there a place to run the mic so that it is more discreet, but still doesn't lose ability to pick up the sound of my voice? Mine, as of right now, is kind of messy in my opinion so any feedback would be great!

More discreet than what? You didn't really explain your situation.

Anyway here's a thread on how to run a wire from under the dash to the roof console. The method should work for a mic cable too assuming the cable isn't too thick and it's long enough. This should get you going. --> https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-b...nstall-552627/

Ya, sorry about that. I should have been more clear in my question. I was mainly wondering, in general, where people have put theirs when it came to installing aftermarket mics. I just ended up clipping mine on the far left driver's side air vent because I am lazy. I love what they did in the link that you provided. I'll have to try that when I get the motivation. Thanks for the help!
