About to head out on a 4-hour round trip. I'll let you know how the data usage goes, although I really don't expect to see any other Escort users along the way.

125 miles/ ~1:50 each way

Outbound trip: 0 alerts received, 0 sent, data usage 5MB
Return trip: 0 alerts received, 27 sent, data usage: 10 MB

On the return trip, I was behind a sheriff's vehicle which was shooting instant-on at opposing traffic. Each time he fired, the RD picked up the reflection and an alert was sent. Was behind him for about 30 miles before he turned off. That's were the 27 alerts came from.

So I'm guessing the app uses about 2.5 MB/hour to update position and about 200K for each alert. Not bad at all.

Haha fail! Jk I think you're right about your area as well

I might buy a radar detector and try it out for a few days and see how I like it. Love return policies haha. I have a feeling a lot of people use the app I'm San Diego where I'm at

nfnsquared, do you have any issues closing your flip down sun visor with the radar in that location? Mine is just slightly below yours and i can only put my visor about half way....so it looks like yours is probably an even worst case than that? how far out does the radar detector sit out past the rear view mirror?

It extends about 2" from the mirror. You can't put the visor all the way forward. It will go just past 90 degrees before it hits the detector. It's never been an issue for me.

thanks that's about how mine is right now. dimensions are pretty similar for the max ii compared to my beltronics pro500. just put it up for sale on BM, craigslist, ebay, everything haha. hopefully i can sell it and jump on the max ii bandwagon

haha nice!! can you let me know what you think of the escort live and if it's worth it? curious to see another data point if you're in an area that's more populated.
what are your thoughts on the 360 so far? where do you have it mounted?

I have it mounted halfway in the middle of my windshield. So far so good. Tomorrow is the real test as I'm back to work after a vacation. I will keep you updated for sure. Update was quick made sure to do full update and not just firmware. Looking forward to seeing how good escort live is

Damn, you snooze, you lose. The Amazon Max II price just jumped $50 on Amazon...

Electronics4Less has them for $379 via Amazon, but they are on back order for another week...

Really happy with my Max II so far. False alarms from blind spot/ adaptive CC are non-existent so far. They apparently did a really good job updated the firmware

^^ i was checking the amazon price every day since this thread started and finally bought a $395 one to test. i got it in on wednesday and couldn't really test it out because i only have a small area of my windshield that isn't tinted for the suction cup but my current one is permanently glued there...but after some more thought i decided i would upgrade. i had the max ii on my dash while my pro500 was still up by the rear view mirror and they seemed to perform the same but the max ii had less false alerts. i wasn't a huge fan of the recessed window in the max ii though or the silver trim, but those are minor criticisms.

this morning i won an ebay auction for a 2 month old max 360 (with receipt and everything) and paid only $545 shipped so i'll be making that switch this upcoming week!! i returned my $395 ($430 after taxes) max ii today to amazon as well. i have to recrimp on a new RJ11 phone connector because my snap in lever on my current cord broke a long time ago. i figure i might as well crimp on a new one for my new detector and start fresh. not sure yet if i will use polyurethane adhesive to mount my sticky cup like i did last time or buy a special 3m mount (ebay) to put up the radar detector. either way i don't trust the sticky cup since i leave my radar up 24/7.

this is why i have to crimp a new connector on rather than run a new "hard wire" cord, a few years ago i hard wired the mute button into the empty slot next to the vsa and moved the vsa over one spot. cord is then routed along the pillars and headliner to the rear view mirror where my detector is:

i'll definitely update the thread with my thoughts in the upcoming weeks!

My sticky cup hasn't budged in 2 weeks.....

Yeah, my 8500 performance (range) seemed on par with that of the Max II, but now I don't get all the false alarms and I get the other great features like stop light cameras and Escort Live inputs for interstate travel

I love the Max 360. Especially the fact that it logs so many false alerts out. I have not been using the Escort live as much as I probably should. But so far so good

^its just hard to open an app when you're driving. if I remember to do so before hand, no problem.

and congrats on both of you for picking up the 360

last night, I took the TL out and could tell the cops were out trying to catch minor infractions. five-oh got behind me, but as soon as he did...some one else cut infront of the cop and I saw him get lit up. lol

I got Lit up a couple months ago with Laser and the cop said did your Radar pick up my laser it didn't with my Belltronics V940. Saw him yesterday and the 360 passed with flying colors. I'm always willing to pay for something that functions and is quality

thanks! i'm excited to get it going in my car but it's not an easy switch out in my car. gotta scrape off the old sticky cup since i used construction strength glue to keep it on, then i have to play with placement and add more glue to keep the new one on. hopefully have it up next week.

wish i had it up today though, i took my wife's car and i saw about 5 motorcycle cops all out giving tickets on my way to work. wish i could have seen how the 360 would have performed or if the escort live would have been helpful.

i briefly ran escort live the other day in the parking lots and there were about 10 identified locations on my path home from work so it seems like more people in san diego use it (my commute home is only 8 miles and it's all non freeway).

remember justin, you don't have to have the app running in the foreground to have it give alerts to the detector! just run it in the background, you should never have to open it up on your phone

yes, however, isnt that what the detector does? alerts me to targets on my commute home? I see no need to run it at all.

and you do have to open the app to "activate it" no?

I'm not leaving it open for a whole day when I'm at the office and not driving

not necessarily caught by detector alone...people can put up alerts that there is a laser speed trap or something similar. so the detector will say "reported alert" 1 mile in advance. if you wait until the detector catches laser, for example, you'll usually get a ticket since once you're hit by laser you're done for.

you open the app once ever and that's it...not daily. there should be an app setting that says enable background alerts (on by default). then you go into your phone settings and make sure for escort live that "locations" is turned off. what this setting does is as soon as the phone doesn't see the bluetooth conenction to the detector, it turns off all gps/data features tied to that device. so basically when you walk out of range the app/detector have no effect on your phone. i tested this the other day and it worked exactly how they described.

so it's really a set up once and never look at it again type of thing with the app...pretty cool in my mind. i figure it's there why not use it. for you it might not make sense since you said there are very little alerts on the map from other users

no worries man, it's definitely a confusing thing but i think that's because it's so fresh on the market and people aren't used to it. if it was something i had to have the app open on my phone screen or open it every time, there is no way i'd use it haha.

but it seems to be pretty seamless so i figure it won't hurt. what's nice too is that you can change all your detector settings super easy from there also...not like we would need to change the settings that often but still.

finally got my 360 radar detector up and in place and wanted to give my thoughts on it:

- my phone didn't always automatically connect to escort live...it was about 50/50
- i really like having escort live connected because it shows the posted speed limit (PSL) and the BEST thing about having that is that if you are under the speed limit....instead of the radar going crazy with alerts and sounds, it just gives a very minor double beep and shows the alert graphic. the other day with my other radar, no matter what speed i was going at the radar would go off like crazy. this escort live feature is nice because if you are stopped or going slow, the noise is at a minimum!! only downside is if the PSL is not correct but it's been pretty accurate so far
- the 360 arrows were very responsive when a cop passed me switching from front to back
- the display looks awesome on the 360
- escort live alerted me to 2 cops on my 8 mile commute this morning and they were pretty accurate. i have my escort live setting set to 60 min, which means anything reported over an hour ago will not show up. i may change to 30 min but i'll use it at 60 for a bit

overall i really like the 360 and am glad i switched! the thing is a huge beast though and is much wider than my last radar detector so i had to move the mounting around a bit

had my ultimate test for my 360 the other day....was trying to avoid my wife noticing a new radar detector up, but we took a 50 mile road trip the other day and she definitely noticed it haha. the good part was that she loved it! she said it was much less annoying, loud, and distracting than my other radar detector and for me that's passing the ultimate test. she said the arrows were super cool.

it was pretty unobtrusive with noise because of escort live...when i was under the speed limit in traffic it went off a few times but because escort live knew i was under the speed limit, it just showed the alert and did a very quick double beep and that was it. my last radar detector would have gone off full volume every time until i silenced it. much better!

the range was noticeably further than my last radar detector and it did a great job picking out cops pretty far ahead. so far i'm pretty happy about getting the 360 and dont' have many, if any, false alerts. i still only get escort live to connect automatically 50% of the time without me going into the phone, but when it doesn't it just takes me 10 sec to go into the app. to me the speed limit feature is worth it

I like PSL(Posted Speed Limit) as well! but i've set it to warn me when I go 5 miles over. and it gets annoying!! LOL i suppose i can turn that off or set it to 10mph.

but doesnt matter cuz i dont open the app anyway. and opening it once never sent it to background and was always in my notification drawer( I have OCD and like the notification drawer to be EMPTY)

But glad it passed the wife test!

But glad it passed the wife test!
haha thanks...that's how i gauge all my mods...how much they upset her haha.

yea that overspeed limit would drive me crazy, i turned mine off. does it say "overspeed" or does it beep?

by notification drawer do you mean showing alerts on your phone? i turned all escort live alerts off, both sound and visual

have you set up your cruising speed on the detector? I think that may help you also, basically if you are under that speed it will do the double beep and not sound all crazy. the default i think is 20 but i had mine set to 35 pre-escort live because i feel like if i'm going 35 i'm probably not speeding

I forgot if it was voice. I want to say its a voice.. "overspeed warning"
but thats another thing I turned off, voice for red light cams.

ummm, I think my set up is where it mutes or lowers the volume after it detects a target. so it will warn me full blast, but then by the 2nd warning, it will quiet down. so, not speed dependent but by how many full blast warnings

got it, the voice would be super annoying.

check out the cruising speed setting. will make your detector more quiet when you're at lower speeds (just a quick double beep). the feature you're talking about is the auto mute and it's probably at the default, "medium". i have mine on high because i thought the medium quieted down a little too much. i had to make sure i could hear it over my nickelback greatest hits blasting....
