Escort Max 2 radar detector for $400

Damn, looks like the new Uniden R3 is blowing everything else out of the water as far as long range detection and false alerts goes:

i'm really glad I saw this. I have had my Max 360 for just over a year now and only updated it when I first bought it. I was thinking that I was probably due for an update. But after watching that video I will be waiting. I love my 360 but like everyone else I would love the laser pick up to be quicker

It's interesting that the Unidens are trouncing the Escort's for long range sensitivity. Escort or Valentine have been or were at the top of their game for years.

Anyone have any new personal use updates? My RD needs to be replaced as it is nearly useless now as it is constantly going off because of the LKAS/LDW, etc......

You can get an R3 for $399 (no mirror mount or cord).
I picked up a second vehicle, so I'm looking to add another RD. I was just switching the RD (Max II) between vehicles, but it's kind of a PITA. At these prices, I may pull the trigger. Probably going to go with the Max360 because of the arrows. It's range is not as good as the R3, but it's plenty good enough.
Also, FWIW, Vortex Radar is reporting that there are rumors of an R3 version with directional arrows coming soon....

Noob question: Is Escort the gold standard now for passive countermeasures (Radar, LIDAR detection) now? I used to be into the radar detector game and knew there were always guys that swore by V1 and its multi-directional threat detection....but obviously it appears their patent is expired and now Escort has the Max360.
I see lot of people have the top end Escorts and seems like V1 is not as popular anymore...
And as a side note, is it also safe to assume that for LIDAR, the best protection is still active jamming? (local laws permitting of course, and I know radar jamming is illegal under fed/FCC rules so that's totally out of the question)Since LIDAR is much more focused and you have a much less chance of detecting it ahead of time vs regular radar which bounces off other cars giving you a chance to detect before getting hit.

Gold standard is pretty hard to define. The R3 detection range is greater than the Max360/Max360C, but the R3 doesn't get directional information. For me, the range of the Max360 is plenty good and the directional arrows are more important to me that increased detection range. There are probably several "gold" radar detectors out there...
Spend some time going through Vortex Radar's video collection. Lots of good info there to help you make a decision.
If laser hits your car, you're screwed (assuming no jamming). The bleep from your detector just lets you know you're about to get pulled over.

Great price on an R3 (~$275 shipped). It's range is better than the Max360, but it doesn't have the multi-directional detection that the 360 does. Still, a very good detector if you don't want to shell out ~$500 for a Max360. Use code: BYD48
