DVD-A Won't Play
Here's the situation.
Me: '07 TL-S; 5AT
mmade22: '05 TL; 6MT
Using Adobeman scripts, I burn DVD-A Images using Roxio:
- I can play my home made DVD-A in my car.
- mmade22 can play my home made DVD-A in his car.
i.e - we're both good.
Using Adobeman scripts, mmade22 burns DVD-A Images using Nero:
- I can play mmade22's home made DVD-A in my car;
- in his car, mmade22's home made DVD-A's play for a few moments, then skip to the next song.
i.e - I'm good, mmade22 not good.
Any ideas on what the problem is?

I don't know the answer, but I found that when I used the "Burn" button in Windows Explorer (running Vista Home Premium SP1) I couldn't play the resulting disc either in the TL or on my Marantz universal player (the Marantz would display "NO PLAY"). I wound up creating several drink coasters this way. Roxio always works fine, however.
So it's not a unique problem, in other words.

One of the disks we tried, which he made, worked in my car and not in his. Today we played the same disc in accuratien's car and it played fine. So, it's definetly down to something in mmade22's player.
Any other ideas appreciated.

Same media being used for all disks?
If so then it's something like
1) Subtle differences between Roxio and Nero that the different model year HU get tripped up by
2) The DVD authoring stuff my GUI controls (dvda-author.exe and mkisofs.exe) may be slightly off standard and again the model year HU get tripped up by it
3) Something in the rip of the WAV files that propagates to the DVD-A and again the model year HU get tripped up by it
To really narrow things down use the same media (from the same pack) and the same source WAV files on both computers. See if you still have the same issues.
OR have mmade22 bring you beer and you make his DVD-As
Remember how bad home made DVD-V was with compatibility? It still has issues but DVD-A never really caught on so unfortunately much of what we muddled through with DVD-V creation never will get ironed out in DVD-V.

Adobeman, thanks. We should be able to do that pretty easy. I've got media from the same pack I've done other burns and have the ISO images on a portable HD.
So we can have mmade22 burn my ISO on my disc on his PC and see what happens.
OR, he can buy me beer and I'll make his DVD-A's.

We've discussed this. I think mmade22 might try it, if it can be done.

I am going to install roxio into my computer this weekend and see what happens. I thought since the 07-08 hu reads mp3 files, it was something with the decoding in my 05 hu since the 05 can't read mp3's. Just a thought.
Bearcat, if all else fails.....I will be bringing over lots of beer.

I've used all +R (both single layer and dual layer) with zero problems in my player. So, +R *will*play, at least in some cases ('07 headunit).
If mmade22 has any -R media, we can try that too. Or we can buy a pack to try.

All mine are dvd-R so that is covered. I will do some work with this over the weekend and see what I come up with. If it fails, I might look into a newer 07-08 HU used if the price is right.

mmade, when you create the DVD-As, are you starting with MP3 files? If so, what are you using to convert them to WAV? Adobeman has acknowledged that his software isn't always foolproof at doing this, and I can confirm that from my own experience of having truncated songs on some DVD-As. I took his advice and downloaded CDex and I use that to rip the CDs now, and I no longer have that problem.
(I don't normally use MP3 since it's a crap format, but I have some of them left over from when I first ripped CDs using iTunes because I wasn't familiar with the software then and didn't realize what it was doing. I re-rip the CD now rather than converting the lossy file when I want to put a CD of that sort on DVD-A. I also have various concert recordings in MP3 format because that's how they came via trading, and for those CDex has been invaluable.)
