DVD-Video To DVD-A

Can anyone point me to a tutorial, guide, or anything that will help me convert the audio from a DVD-Video disc and burn it to a DVD-Audio disc without losing any quality? I want to remove the 5.1 or DTS sound track from a DVD-Video (a live concert DVD) and burn it to a DVD-Audio disc I can play in the TL. Any help?

I have been asking the same thing. Problem that I have found is that there is no easy way to convert DD to a format that will play in TL and keep 5.1. I believe there are ways to do this (i.e for DTS and standard PCM), but it takes a lot of work and some SW programming experience to get it right.

Some enterprising person should develop a turn-key SW program to do this and sell for $75 - $100. I would be first on the list to purchase - i have a lot of concerts that I would like to convert, being able to convert DD and play in the TL would be a huge bonus in 5.1.

use dvd audio extractor to extract the mono wav files and then use discwelder to burn. works ok and not too expensive.

Yes, much easier but I've had some files that did not extract properly - the tools listed in the guide I linked to have been a little more reliable for me. But when DVD-Audio Extractor works, it works really well.

Mike,

have you been able to use dvd audio extractor for the dts tracks and then burn them back to dvd? if so... what do you use to burn ... so far ive focused on the dolby tracks ... i don't think discwelder bronze supports dts

You have to convert the dts tracks to .wav, just like Dolby Digital - and the end result is sonically far superior. I generally use the steps shown in the DTS Guide link that I posted to do that - because I've had batch files written to make it a one step command line process since long before I owned DVD Audio Extractor.

DVD-A Extractor will do it if memory serves.

My Pioneer CD recorder will record a DTS-encoded CD. Might that be a possibility? I've never tried it but the idea had crossed my mind as well.
