DVD System

Have anyone in here installed a DVD system in their 04 TL yet? I am looking to hook up a DVD system in my car, 2 headrest monitors and the DVD Player in the dash with a monitor coming from the DVD player. If you do let me know the systems thats available for the TL.

Yes, but probably not an option for you. I put a computer in my car and have an external DVD to my in dash monitor...will be adding an internal DVD drive soon.

You can convert the NAVI screen to play DVDs if you opted for the NAV.

Yes I am interested in putting a computer in my car. Now you would need to put a dvd player and a monitor as well? How much did you pay for the system?

I relocated the non-navi OEM LCD below the radio and put a 7" touchscreen in its place.

I built the computer into the glovebox and have a fan in the bottom pulling in cool, cabin air. The other fan vents out the top behind the dash. I have a GPS module on the dash and a tiny Wi-Fi adaptor tucked under the sunvisor and pointing out the sunroof for wireless internet access.

Software: WindowsXP with 'Road Runner', which is an interface that integrates MS Mappoint 2004 for navi and Winamp for audio/video + much more.... I also have 12GB+ of emulated game systems with playstation controllers and USB port in center console (to be replaced with a hub soon). 500+ full albums of mp3s...

Plan to add DVD drive in glovebox, USB hub in center console, a valet switch, and rear-view camera which will complete Phase III.

There was about 5 months of planning put into this project as well as an estimated 100 hours of labor of my own behalf.

I am installing the IceLink as we speak. Be forewarned, if you have nav you will have to remove the entire radio to get at the plug. This means removing the vents and part of the upper dash. I am about to go do this and hopefully put an end to this unfortunate install.

I have my iPod hardwired in my Z06, cannot imagine going any other route. The iTrip is crap, and I am anything but an audiophile. Granted it is perhaps the easiest way to do this.

I have done every bit of the labor myself, so this has saved me a LOT of money.

At the end of Phase I, everything was fully functional at just barely under $1k.

Phase II added a laptop drive, some fans, and a few odd parts which brought the total to ~ $1200.

With Phase III will come DVD, rear view camera, a USB hub, and a few odds and ends to bring the total to approximately $1450- which is still much cheaper than the factory NAV option!

I'll try to get some pics up sometime soon. I lost my image hosting. Anyone know of a low hassle, free hosting service? I could even take a small .mov if interested.

come on bro show some pics =) I'm eager to see your carPC setup.

If you want I can host it on my comcast ftp site. I upload all my stuff there and its fast, free hosting for you =)
Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll give you a link to my FTP site.

I am also thinking on the rear view camera. Can't figure out how to mount it. Most rear view reversed and wide angle cameras I found are the ones you mount on the trunk keyhole. Since our TL doesn't have that, I been looking at all the diff options. Got any ideas?

I might just pickup the keyhole camera assuming its the same one this guy used.

Looking to get either this one:

or this with Infrared LEDs.

k, I guess I need to take some pics first I'd appreciate you hosting them for me.

I was thinking of drilling a hole in the license plate. I don't really see anywhere else to mount it. But I'm afraid it wouldn't be deep enough for the camera...

Where r the pics?????

My plans.

Install a VIA M100 in the trunck.

rebuild the center armrest to house a 7in. touch screen.

Don't mess with the factory navi at all.

This should be done in about 2 months.
