I'm not sure if someone has done this already. If someone did, I found a way easiar method to do it.

After playing with DVD-A Solo and making 2CH DVD-A discs, I decided to make backups of DVD-A discs I bought.

First, I tried staright 1:1 copy on DL discs. Did not work. It plays fine on my computer but would not read in TL. I tried CloneDVD, DVDdecrypter, Roxio, Nero, Ulead Disc Creator and so on. 4 DL discs wasted.

Second, I tried to extract LPCM tracks using DVDdecrypter and used DVD-Audio Solo to make a new ISO image. This worked! It was going good until I hit disc "Winelight".

Here comes "winelight". This disc only has DTS tracks, no LPCM. I tried the same method I used before and it would not copy. None of programs would read or transcode or play this DTS file. I started surfing the web and downloaded Besweet,Belight, ODDregister, Some crap codecs x 5 , DTS2WAV.ax and so on. Nothing really worked.

Then I went to google and started search for DTS2WAV. There were programs but none of links worked. I was still looking around at this point. Then I see this program called DVD Audio Extractor. Sounds kinda unbelievable as lots of people spent hours seperating and converting to 6CH WAVs before.

Well, only way to find out is by downloading and trying it. Wow, this program does steps that took me half an hour before in a few minutes. From here It was an easy cruise. Program extracts DTS&LPCM and saves straight to 6CH WAV files. All you need is DVD audio solo. For your safety(especially if you are shareware user), create ISO image on HDD so you can make more copies later on.

I burnt ISO with Roxio on 16x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.

Caution: Try to write at lowest writing speed. I tried several discs at 16x and it would skip in middle of playing. I changed burning speed to 4x and it worked fine.

 

Nice report. So is this the final process
Decrypt to HDD --> DVD Audio Extractor to 6chwav --> Burn w/ Solo ?

That offers a good alternative to the way DTS discs play in the car with those wicked "pops" and "clicks"

I only have one DTS disc, but it plays fine. No pops or clicks here.

 

This trick works for
Anything you want to make to 5.1 DVD-A surround playable in our TL.

What you need
1. DVD-Audio extractor or equivalent http://www.castudio.org/dvdaudioextractor/
2. DVD-Audio solo
3. Roxio/Nero/Others(Optional)

Difference from the way we did it before
We used DVDdecryptor to get tracks off then had to use DBPowerAMP to convert to WAV file. Only LPCM is possible this way. Discs only have DTS tracks doesn't work at all.

Steps and Tips
1. Run DVD-A Extractor : Make sure you pick "6ch" on left bottom as well as "6ch" on next screen. It converts anything to 6CH WAV for you, it's FAST.
2. Run DVD-A Solo : Easy drag and drop then hit "Write" under DVD menu
3. Burn it : You can either do it straight from solo or use 3rd party.

DVD-A Extractor is VERY intuitive program. There aren't many buttons at all. You will easily figure out what each button does.

DVD-A Solo is well dicussed across this board. Please do a search if you have any questions about this program.

I used 3rd party burning program(Roxio/Nero) because I don't really trust DVD-Audio Solo's burning progress. This is purely optional.


By the way if you do a little "work" you can get the extractor for free. I can't say more in detail publicly

 

so we dont really need dvd-a solo?

 

i have music on my comp will it work if i convert that into WAV or does it have to be from a dvd

 

Maybe it's just me but I thought it was established from posts months ago that the easiest way to rip the songs off DVD-Vs and DVD-As was the use of DVD Audio Extractor.

 

Yes we do need DVD-A solo to do 5.1CH. if you are doing 2CH, you can use free Adobeman's script.

Not sure what you have in HDD. Is it 5.1Ch file? Then you can make surround sound from that.


If you are listening 5.1CH files on your computer, I find quicktime 7 is best player available. You can actually turn on and off each channel during payback.

Are the LPCM files you are extracting from the DVD-A coming out in 24/96?
Does DBPowerAmp convert them to 6 channel wav files at 24/96 ?

When I use DVD-A Extractor, I have option of either 16 bit or 24bit at 48Khz.
DVD Decryptor seems to be doing 24bit work and I'm not sure about Khz.

Im having some troubles doing the burning.......i made a ISO file and its on my desktop.....i can seem to burn it with NERO.....it says unexpected file format??......i dont know wat im doing wrong....could someone help me

Convert MP3 to WAV, move files to DVD-A WAV directory and run Adobeman's script which will create an ISO image in DVD-A format. This is for 2 Channel Stereo DVD-A. BTW, I use CDex to convert MP3 to WAV, the best freeware converter available.

I've been using Deepburner (free edition) as recommended on Adobeman's thread. Select Burn ISO Image, select your ISO file from the HD and burn away. I've had no problems with it.

 

For Nero, you will need to open the .iso file. File > Open > Select "Image Files" > Click to open the .iso file. A new burning window should appear next.

Make sure your iso file is correct. You can google for a program called Daemon Tools. It will allow you to mount the iso file (as well as several other image files) as another drive on your computer. I use this program to test before burning so I don't waste DVDRs.

 

Everyone should have the Dolby Digital and THX demo Dvd-v ripped to play in the TL as a DVD-A. Blows my friends away everytime I play it!

 

its not showing as an ISO image file.....for me to select it i have to click "all files"

 

Klutch, using Adobeman's script will create an ISO in the DVDA Image folder. If you're not getting an ISO after running the script, then something is definetly wrong. You may want to PM Adobeman and see what's up.

I used DVD Solo as described above and in worked great on the first DVD I tried. My question is this, on the first DVD, when I started DVD solo, it gave me the option of 6 channels. The other DVD's I have tried, it only gives me stereo or mono as an option. These DVD's have 5.1 Surround on them. Anyone know why I can't get these to work? From the thread I thought any DVD could be made in Surround sound....

 

Were the other DVDs you created from a 6 channel source or from your stereo (2 channel) CD collection?

DVD Solo will only output what you give it, if you give it a 2 channel source that is what will be output, it will not upconvert a 2 channel source to 6 channel.

 

They were all original DVD's that supposedly had 5.1 Surround available.

 

Someone needs to sticky this one. I have been trying to figure a way to get the 6CH off of my dvds for a while now. Good job Actuary!

 

Since most DVDs have multiple tracks you must make sure your ripping the correct tracks from the DVD.

You may have inadverdantly ripped a stereo track and not the 5.1

 

So what happens to the watermarks and the cppm copy protection?

 

For those of you who are ripping chapters/tracks from DVD *Video* discs (ie-5.1 Dolby and/or DTS tracks), how are you determining which chapters/tracks to rip?

Right now I'm going thru each chapter on the DVD and marking which ones I want to save (by writing down the chapter #), because my computer can't seem to play the 6channel tracks I rip using DVD Audio Extractor. (ie-my idea was to just rip all the chapters/tracks using DAE, and then listen to them to determine if I wanted to add them to the DVD Audio disc I was going to burn.)

I use the free program JetAudio for 95% of all my audio playback. It also has rip functions for CD's, and will playback most 6channel tracks in stereo mode. This may help in your DVD chapter selection process.

 

Thanks! yeah, i only have 2.1 speakers connected to my computer via the motherboards onboard audio (analog connection). i'll try out JetAudio. What version do you use?

 

I have thoroughly gone over the previous threads and this one…awesome information…I have seen these floating around forever and finally got a chance to read them.

I dl’ed extractor and solo last night…everything worked great until the end…when I try to burn w/ solo it locks up @ the “72% completed” point. It has done this two times… not sure what is causing this….

The name of the program DVD Audio Extractor demonstrates one of the shortcommings of the DVD-Audio format. All the confusion around the name DVD-Audio. This proggie can NOT extract DVDA tracks encoded in MLP at 96x24. The upside is that is does a great job of ripping the DTS tracks from the DVD-V section of the disks and most DVDA disks have a DTS track.

If you want the high res stuff off the DVDA disk you still find PPCMRipper and DVDAripper and DVDAExplorer to be useful tools.

 

The latest. Current update takes it to 6.2.6.8830.

 

How would you get a 5.1 surround if your source audio file was originally recorded in 2 channels? Is there a way to convert 2 channel records into 6 channel ones?

 

Nothing I have seen. I thought it might be fun to experiment with something like that but I didn't find anything. There are patented technologies in many Home theatre receivers to simulate surround from two channels but I couldn't find any encoders. (At least free/cheap ones) You would probably have to "roll your own" using various sound editing tools.

Example
FR and FL could be "Karaoke" track (low vocals)
C could be Original - "Karaoke" (strong vocals)
RS and LS could be low-level reverbed version of FR and FL
Sub...probably just not use it.

I gave up after about an hour. Just too much work for something that would be "fake" in the end.

 

I have been looking all over the web for these. I hate that I have liek 2 dozen DVD-A discs and can't make copies for my TL, I don't take the originals out.

 

This is off topic but you can do conversions of 2-channel stuff to 5-channel but they don't sound nearly as good as the the real 5.1 discrete recordings. An example is the subwoofer track (LFE) will be a mix of the low frequencies from the left and right channels. Some conversions are better that others and some are very listenable.

Has anyone sucessfully copied the TL demo disk using DVDAE ?

I don't think it can get past the watermarks present on some of the tracks even though what it pulls off is from the DTS tracks. The TL player does mute playback of this stuff.

 

I am interested to know exactly what disc this is you are talking about.
