It will play all the tracks in one group, but you can select the group by pressing and holding the Scan and Repeat buttons, then wait for a confirmation beep. Keep doing this to cycle through the groups.

mp3 support added to my scripts

For those of you that have been using my scripts...

I have released version 3 of the scripts. you can use mp3s directly now.

Get it at http://home.comcast.net/~adobeman/DVDA/
Version 3 Changes:
  • Decoding of mp3 files to wav using BeSweet. Put your mp3 files in the same place you put your wav files and the program will decode them to wav. Default settings are to normalize the mp3s to 100%.
  • Size checking (sort of). The program will try and check to make sure that you don't have to much material for one disk. The standard setting is MAXDVDSIZE=4650000000 in setenv.bat. Change as required for DVD DL.

Let me know how it goes.

It doesn't work properly on mine. After it says "... it is going to take a long time, press any key to continue" it quits.

Downloaded your scripts for the first time (version 3) and the scripts were able to convert from .mp3 to .wav and then compute the estimated DVD size, but after that nothing else happens. No image is created, nor any error messages. Any ideas?

Sample Output:
The files will now be made into a DVD-A structure and then an image
will be created. This will take a long time if you have a full DVDs
worth of songs.

I may have screwed up something in the scripts with the max size check. The number reported doesn't seem too big but maybe it is and I didn't read it correctly.
There should be a file called wavsize.txt in the c:\dvda directory. Please copy the contents of the file into a reply (or PM me with it) and I will take a look. Wrap it in "CODE" tags please.

If you are a absolutely convinced that all your content is not too big then you can try editing the file setEnv.bat and changing the line "SET MAXDVDSIZE=4650000000" by adding another zero or two. You don't need to re-decode the mp3s unless you deleted the wav files. Hopefully that will get you though until I see the file you send me.

Version 3 'available space' error

Adobeman,

I'm facing the same problem too. I changed the variable MAXDVDSIZE by adding 2 more 0's in setEnv.bat. Still no luck.

I'll send you the wavsize.txt document soon.

Thanks for all the help

P.S. It's my first post here... NEWBIEEEE! Just got my TL a week ago and I've been hooked onto this forum ever since.

capri_tl / Irwin,

Looks like I messed up something. I'll go back to the drawing board for now.

Irwin, you content looks to be OK to fit on a single layer DVD. I'm guessing that capri_tl's is OK too.

Try changing line 66 of MakeDVDA.bat to add the REM that is in red below.

Code:
ECHO * Current estimated size of all wavs is %CUR1%
ECHO * Maximum allowed on disk %MAXDVDSIZE%
ECHO *
ECHO *
ECHO * Change variable "MAXDVDSIZE" in Setenv.bat if you are using DVD DL
ECHO *
ECHO ************************************************************************
pause
REM GOTO END

:MAKEIT
You will still see the message but when you hit a key to continue it should just go on and make your DVD rather than the quit it does now.

Sorry.

Adobeman,

My file looks similar too. I'll try making the change you've specified above and see if it works.

However, in the meanwhile, I've been successful at creating 3 DVD-A's using Cirlinca. It's just that I'm having to first convert all my MP3s to WAV and then use Cirlinca. I shouldn't be whinning about it though.

Thanks again Adobeman.

This may be a stupid question but I read through the thread and could not find an answer. When converting mp3 format to dvd-a does the sound quality increase? I am unsure if people are burning dvd-a for the increase in songs per disc or quality. Thanks

No, the sound quality does not increase. It may actually decrease in quality a bit since there is a conversion in format and sampling rate. It is the typically sampling rate change that can decrease the quality. All depends on the decoder being used.

With stereo (2 channel) music DVD-A is pretty much about getting more music on a a disk.

What actually happens is the mp3s need to be "decoded", or uncompressed, back into a format compatible with DVD-A. This is typically a wav or aiff file. So by using mp3s you don't get more songs on a DVD-A than if you had used wav files. This is because your mp3s will be uncompressed to the same size as wavs prior to actually getting made into the DVD-A.

So, if you have the CDs you should always rip to wav rather than use mp3 versions of the same songs.

CD ---(No loss in quality) -->WAV -->DVDA
CD ---(quality loss)---> mp3 --(possible quality loss)--> Wav ---> DVDA

I have added BeSweet decoding to my scripts since it seems to work on just about any mp3 I throw it. Even those with errors within. LAME is good at decoding too but had problems with many mp3s I fed it.

Thanks for the quick feedback adobeman and datmrman. I will pass on this deal. I am a big fan of sound quality. I think an ipod intergration would be more suitable for me.

Scripts back up

My DVDA creation scripts are back up on my site.
There were some problems with the new scripts detecting total size but I think thanks to some help from Irwin Fletcher, I have worked out the bugs.

It shows wavs when you put in a regular commercially made audio CD ? Usually you will need a ripper program for sure. Did you install any utilities that may be allowing you to rip via file explorer ?
Anyway, if you can copy them to the HD and they play fine with a wav file player then you are all set.

Will the TL show song and artist information on these home-made DVD-As? It doesn't song info for any of the commercial DVD-As i have such as Eagles, Crystal Method, or Santana.

Adobeman... with the new version... the script is not generating an image if i use a temp drive other than the base drive. in the script, it says that it generaged the image at... E:/DVDA/Image/DVDA.iso... but that folder will remain empty. But... if i change the temp drive to the same as the base drive. It works fine.

When burning a DVD-A using the scripts, I've used DeepBurner Free to copy the ISO image and haven't encountered any problems. I have used Nero (older version) and made several coasters in the process. BTW, I'm still using the original scripts first posted by Adobeman - works all the time.

Perfection!!

I've finally managed to create DVD-A discs flawlessly on every shot with no coasters. Either Cirlinca's program or Adobeman's program work great and it seems as though the type of discs I was using is the cause of certain songs ending prematurely. I was using Memorex DVD-R discs and when I would play them in the TL some songs would just randomly end early but when I played them in my home DVD player I had no problems. I switched to Sony DVD-R discs and have absolutely no problems after 7 new discs created. If I had to promote a brand of discs, right now it would be Sony DVD-R and the programs I would highly recommend are Adobeman's and Cirlinca's.
