Dual Disc CD = DVD-A ?

I purchased a few new CDs from Amazon and they all are all Dual Disc.
Meaning the regular CD on one side, and a DVD on the other showing
videos and what not. There are alot of these out now

I bought these cause they were the same price more or less as the
regular CD, there are all sorts of issues with these things, but
they worked fine for me, but not well with Apple iTunes - whole
'nother story.

3 are: Devils & Dust (Springsteen), Stand Up (DMB),
Rebel, Sweetheart (Wallflowers)

I looked closely at the Wallflowers DVD side and saw it said
DVD-A. I put the DVD side in the TL and low and behold it
played as DVD-A. I didn't try the others. Anybody else find
others the were also DVD-A - not sure if this is standard
or not for Dual Disc.

What I don't know is if it's really taking full advantage of DVD-A
channel format.

The second side could be any format -- DVD-V, DVD-A, SACD -- so you'll have to look carefully.

DualDisc does not have a standard as to what should be on the flipside. The original concept was to have DVD-A (hi-rez format) and we can thanks Sony for F*#*ing that up. Since Sony's hi-rez format is SACD, they opted to use DVD-V on the flipside. Sony Music and it's affiliated labels will have only DVD-V on it's DualDisc releases. IMO, I guess they want a bigger piece of the pie. UMG, WB (I think) and a lot of your indie companies will utilize DVD-A. As TLover stated, you will have to look very carefully. At the bottom of the DVD logo, you will either see Video or Audio. Another item to look for is the term "Advanced Resolution Surround Sound". Sorry to say, but Bruce Springsteen's Devil and Dust is in DVD-V format. You might want to do a search of favorite DVD-A discs and DualDisc and see what members have to say about them.

Incase you didn't find this posted in every other DVD-A thread....if it's on one of Sony's music labels...it's NOT DVD-Audio.
