Dual Disc

Has any of you been brave enough to stick one these thick disks into the player? I have had to take apart a slot loaded player before, because a thick disk got stuck in it. I would not be looking forward doing the same to my changer in the TL.

That's why questions like these need to be posted in BT/Navi/Audio/Video where there are people more likely to understand this kind of stuff.

Anyway, I didn't know dual discs were thicker, I just thought they had stuff on both sides or had two layers of stuff on one side, so you can see how much I know about this.

I know that if you put a label on a CD after you burn it, you may run into clearance issues. The paper used for labels is pretty thick.
Maybe that is what he is talking about.

Dual Discs work fine

Dual Discs are just a tiny bit thicker than a standard CD or DVD, but extensive testing has shown very few problems, and by personal experience, I can tell you that all the Dual Discs that I have tested (10 so far) work great in the TL. ric

I have never heard of these. Are they a new type of music format? If so, what are the pros/cons to them if any?

Sorry should have posted in the right sub forum. Dual disc is 25% thicker than regular CDs. The spec for single CDs and DVDs is 1.2 mm while dual disk is 1.5 mm. I had problems with some slot loaded home players with extra thick disk. The paper is a different issue. The paper causes the rollers to slip that is why it will not eject. ;-). BTW Dual disc, is just a marketing gimmic in my mind it is a sub-standard cd layer stuck to the backl of a DVD disk. The DVD can be video or audio. Technically it is a real bad idea but i am afraid this is the direction the music industry is going as far as DVD-A is concerned. The more elegant solution is what the SACD people did with hibryd SACDs, where there is a transparent CD layer in front of the DVD layer. Depending of the focus depth the laser can read the CD or the DVD layer.

My concern wasn't that the dualdisc wouldn't fit but rather that they would make it a DVD format to put some video content and not DVD-Audio which would make it useless in our players. I'm glad to know that ricwilson has tried some and they work. I didn't even know that 10 were released yet. That is a bit of a relief.

Hi All,

If you've wanted to try DualDisc but can't find it in the stores, here is a good start - 45 titles released by Silverline:

DualDisc: http://www.dvdlauncher.com/search.php?browse=artist

DVD-Audio: http://www.silverlinerecords.com/catalog_main.asp

Enjoy, ric
