DRL Led

I have a '08 TL I was planning on making my DRL's LED, can I just order the 9005 Bulb, or do I need the wiring harness too?

The low down for DRL's is the following:

You can swap out OEM bulbs for your new bulbs just fine. However, you'll get an error on the dash, due to a different resistance detected in the system.

To clear the error, you'll need to add resistors to the circuit.

You have the option to stop at this point, but some people take the optional step of getting a wiring harness, because the DRL's are usually run at half-voltage (hence less brightness), and the harness gives the bulbs the full voltage (12 V) and thus they can run at full brightness. If you want, you can get the bulbs and resistors, install, see if you like it, and if you want it at full brightness, get the harness.

The LEDs in your DRL lights might not light up at all because the operating voltage of it is going to be +12v whereas your DRL connector is only going to supply 5-6v. Half of the LEDs will light up or they are all just going to be dimly lit and not 100% brightness. It's not going to look good at all.

I have an 08 tl.. I dont know if you heard of ijdmtoy out here in the west coast.

But yesterday they successfully installed LED drl with harness and throws no code on my car. They will soon start making this kit as my car was the test dummy.

Apparently they have alot of bad luck with the 07-08 tl but it seems they finally found a solution yesterday. Im happy with how they look. Might want to contact them.

I just picked up a pair of 9005 LED bulbs from Amazon to put them in my 08 TL that I got Monday, a 1/4 of the LEDs light up and at very dim brightness.

I've ordered the ijdmtoy wiring harness and that should fix the issue. I was considering halogen bulbs with blue tinted glass to see though, but since I got the LEDs I decided to buy the harness for like $22

Do you have a link to the ijdmtoy harness you bought ?

It's cheaper on Amazon by a couple bucks:

That's not the right one.

iJDMToy has one specifically for Acura TLs, which cost more than the generic ones like you bought.

Your harness will remove the DRL error on the dash, but it won't be full brightness.

Just like guitar player said. You bought the wrong ones. The one you bought is to disable the "DRL ERROR" light on the dash board. It will not supply full 12v+ to the bulbs. I have the ones you just linked.

All it does is fool the electrical system by adding resistance to the circuit which makes the system think that the regular halogen bulb is working which will not give you a "DRL ERROR" orange light on the dashboard. That's what it means by "ERROR FREE"

You want to buy a RELAY HARNESS that hooks up directly to the battery to get power and it uses the factory DRL connector as a switched power to activate the relay.

Because a relay harness actually hooks up to the battery you will be able to supply the full 12v+ needed to illuminate any LED fully

Well crap, looks like I'm returning them as soon as they get here

Maybe I'll just opt for blue tinted glass halogens, it'll be white/blue enough

I've been running the jlc lightings drl kit for years and have had no problems. Just contact them through their website. I'm using the vleds drl lights though since they are way better

Silly question......I've seen on another thread somewhere that you can remove the DRLs, and the inevitable warning light that follows.. Anyone have input? NOTE: I'm aware of the questionable legality/insurance issues..

I put LED bulbs without the relay harness, so far, and I haven't had any error codes. Only thing is the bulbs only light up maybe 25% and they're dim. I have the harness coming in Wednesday where I'll get the full 12v needed and that eliminates the error code too I believe.

Either way, no error code now, so I figure it won't pop up with the additional harness.

No it wont. It will look brown.

Think about it. The DRL runs at 6v. Have you ever seen a car with DRLs that also function has a High-Beam (Our 3G TL doesn't apply)? It's very noticeable how in DRL mode the bulb looks very brown/amber and dim and as soon as you hit the high beams they turn very bright and whiter.

With those blue tinted halogen bulbs they will look more white when the bulb is getting full 12v.

If it's just getting 6v it will still look brown and dim and no where near white or white/blue.

I know someone who has a 08 accord with hoen xenonmatch bulbs for the DRL. They look just like every other halogen bulb when in DRL mode. As soon as high beam are activated they look noticeably more white.

yeah I'm happy I didn't opt for that.

Installed my LEDs today with the iJDMToy wiring harness and it looks awesome. So much better than that yellow halogen bulb.

I went crazy for about an hour as to why it wasn't working at first though. Tried every combination of plug and nothing. It turned out to be a shorted out fuse, once the new fuse was in, it was good.

So I've run into a bit of a problem.

During initial startup my DRLs don't work, but after driving for awhile they turn on. There's a new fuse in there so I don't think it's that. I'm not using the iJDMtoy LEDs, some cheap one off amazon, could it be those?

anyone use silver star bulbs instead of LED? Or something that gives off a clear white/bluish light?

I'm over the pee pee yellow drl but not necessarily into LED's - every frickin car in the universe has them now

I don't know from personal experience with LED DRL's but I do know you get what you pay for!

Halogen bulbs will only give you a pale pee pee DRL colour.

If you want true white/bluish light, you should go with LEDs.

If there was a halogen bulb that gives us a nice white/blue light, I'm sure we wouldn't go through the trouble of getting a wire harness to get the same result

My friend put a GE Nighthawk bulb (which is superior to the Silverstar Ultra bulbs) hoping to get a white output but he was disappointed that it only made it a small hint whiter, mainly still looking pale yellow. They were brighter than stock, so he did keep them.
