Double DIN where Navi is....Possible????

So my navigation broke and didnt feel like paying for a whole new system and I work for Best Buy and got a great deal on a new double din navigation system. I know the normal place to put it is under the stock navigation screen but don't want a dead screen with a functioning one under it. So what I like is more of a stock look, and would like to put the screen where the old one is. Now im aware there are air ducts there that wont allow it, but is it possible to cut them and seal them (I don't care if they don't work) and maybe a little of the center support to slide in the double din aftermarket navi. I know there is enough with and can probably do something about height if need be but I just want to know if there is enough room depth wise if I do cut out those air ducts or is there something behind it that would propose another problem. My installer at work is really good and does custom work all the time but can't make space up. I just figured I cant be the first one to think of this but I cant find anything on any forum about it but figured I would ask in case I missed it and started cutting things apart. THANKS!!

most people put a tablet in its place. Now for your question of "is it possible?" of course! anything is possible with custom work, some imagination, and a lot of planning. If you don't care for the air ducts, then just cut them out and you would have more room to work with, although I have not seen anyone do this yet.

There is not enough depth on top. You've got less than 6" to work with up there. Beyond that you have to start cutting up dash structure. You could use a video interface and output video from the new deck to the stock screen and have them both work.

So we got a chance to take it apart today and noticed right behind the screen is where not only those two upper vents are distributed but where all of the vents are fed through so cutting that apart would completely stop air from coming out all of the car. So without some extreme relocation of that unit there is no way to do it. In theory yeas you could do it if you live in Hawaii and dont need heat or cold air because there is depth there for one but highly impractical which is why no one has ever done it.
