Double Din

I read through all the search pages before I posted this new thread. I have a pretty much completed sound system, but sometimes I jus wonder If I would sound that much better with an Aftermarket Double Din Headunit. I was waiting to see if there had a couple of guys making the kits for this conversion. I have an 08 TLS and I would like to still be able to use the Navi and BT and all that good factory stuff.

no one has successfully made an aftermarket kit that they can sell. The Stock HU gives out a pretty good signal, and any inconsistencies can be easily fixed by an equalizer. What does you current system consist of?

Lets see:

It has a Utopia Be Kit no 7
Focal k2p UV for rear fill
Audison Bitone.1
JL 1000/1
2 JL HD 600/4
An optima battery & Small Kinetic Battery
JL 13 w7
3sixty.2, but its jus there to run my sub off of.

I love the love of the iva w505 or even the new iva 900, i might just be crazy but, i've spent alot of money on the system so far, and jus wonder sometimes if it can only get better?

seriously? Ok, first, the HFL, and nav voice run through the headunit. You could replace the deck and keep the visual of the nav but will lose the audio. You will also lose the HFL. Most decks will have at least an option for BT though.

Next, did you do any analysis of the factory system before you took it all apart? The deck outputs 5 full range channels + a LPd sub channel (~100Hz iirc) There is really no eq-ing of the factory signal other than ~ a 3dB cut around 1kHz on the front channels. Other than that it is pretty ruler flat. With a bitOne you should have NO problem electrically correcting the input and also correcting the outputs for the acoustics of the car. The only drawback to the factory deck is the relatively low output voltage (<1v), but again, the line driver in the bitOne should have no problem overcoming this.

On a sidebar, isn't the 3sixty kind of redundant? or are you running all 8 + center active?

honestly, a new deck will gain you nothing in terms of sound quality. The only real advantage of switching a 2 din in there is to improve the nav. Which, btw, is in MUCH need of an upgrade imo. But if you are doing it for that reason I would definitely NOT be looking at an Alpine unit.

Did you do the tuning yourself on the system? Not trying to be a dick, but with that list of equipment if it is installed properly the source unit should be of zero consequence in this car.

I had a couple of people tune it. Sounds fantastic. Just wondering how it would sound, thanks for your input.

channels 1-6 running the Be's in the front, channel 7-8 running the k2p components in the back. I bought the 3sixty.2 way before the second version of the bitone.1 came out, so its jus there for the bass amp and sub.
