The Doors - 40th Anniversary (DVD-A)

Don't know if it's a repost, but anyway. If there are any Door's fans out there, Rhino and Elektra Records has released a 12 disc box set of their albums titled "Perception". All 6 discs have been remastered and the DVD-A is recorded at 96kHz/24 bit 5.1 surround as well as DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital. Here's a portion of the review in HDTV etc.

.....The Doors are meant to be heard full surround and the Perception box delivers with one exception compared to the rest of the set. "Strange Days", "Riders on the Storm" and many other tracks make stunning use of the surround sound space, and even classic radio stalwarts like "Hello, I Love YOu" are fresh, musical journeys.

Two more DVD-A discs - "Moonlight Acoustica" from AIX records features guitarists Carl Verheyen and Laurence Juber in a 53 minute electro-acoustic jam. The second disc is "Morph the Cat" by Donald Fagen and mixed by none other than Elliot Scheiner.

The early albums are "tame" surround mixes. Their debut disc is actually 3.1, vocal in the center, music in the front left and right, with "ambience" in the rears. However, as you progress through the albums, the use of the rear speakers in increased.

It still sounds great in high resolution, 3.1 or 5.1! A good deal when you consider you get 6 CDs and 6 DVD-As, all in a nice package!
