I just had the Hand Free Link (bluetooth) replaced in my 06 TL. In my case HFL unit was completely dead (would not work at all when steering wheel button was presssed). First thing service advisor asked was did I have the extended warranty-so the answer is maybe.

I get the impression they do alot of HFL and can diagnose a failed one very quickly. .

As I understand it-the unit has to have "failed" before they will replace it under warranty. There is a TSB that covers 04 and some 05 and 07-08 for various issues. I found the TSBs in the 3G garage.

One of the symptoms of a bad HFL is that it "cannot find any phones" -this is indicative that bluetooth is not broadcasting-therefore no pairing. If the HFL does broadcast a bluetooth signal-but the phone won't pair-then Acura may not replace it under warranty. Acura tends to blame the phone as not compatible with their system. This is often the case with newest smartphones as in some cases, the bluetooth stack (software) is newer than the firmware in the HFL.

I was told by my dealership that firmware in HFL is not upgradeable by the owner or dealership. They also said that there is no guarantee that even a "new" HFL will work with some of the newest phones if it is not on the approved list. Acura has a HFL support group (can be linked at Acura corporate website) that is supposed to be able to tell you whether your phone is compatible.

So if i bring my car in and ask them to try to pair any phone they have that is on the compatible list then i'm sure they will have to replace it. I'll have to read my extended warranty tonight.
