DIY Navigation Hack: The RESURRECTION thread 2015 on steroids!
#82
Finally got this to work last night, thoughts on the install:
- Pat isn't kidding when he says "Run quickly" in step 8... it will give you a disk error if you aren't moving your butt!
- Files don't have to be burned to a DVD, I used a plain old CDR and it worked just fine.
- Faststone viewer works great, remember to switch to 256 colors on the save as screen, and be nice, kick them a few bucks for the great free software.
- I now have the Cap'n America shield for my splash screen, but then it goes to a "Loading..." screen (I assume where the nag screen used to be)... it clears itself without hitting the "OK" button so I'm not complaining, but it would be nice if the splash screen stayed up until the map came up, I think it may be possible, DumpNavi.exe seems to have an option for it...
Thanks again Polish_Pat for putting this together and the YouTube video!

No need to run...at least for me
Hey guys,
When I do this I don't run back and forth...I just pop out the original disc, insert the modded disc. Go back in the car, bring up the diagnostics menu, hit load with the modded disc inside. Wait for the system to do its thing. Once the mod takes affect, I get the error message about the disc, go back to the trunk put in the OEM nav disc. It automatically read the disc and Im good to go.
Since the original modded thread, I've probably done this upwards of 15-20 times. Never failed me.
Big up Pat for putting these files together.

Hello,
This is mostly a question for polish_pat.
Here's the situation: I have a 2005 Accord using the orange 3.50 disk and I was able to use the files you had to partially do the hack. I was able to change the background and removed the nag screen message but the button (which now just says "GO") is still there. I used the bin files you posted. Mine uses the BN2HN380.bin file specifically. At first I changed the background only and tried to load it up. The nag screen was still there, still had the ok button, no change to trip computer, no extra diagnostics menu from info screen. I tried it again also running the nag screen removal and it removed the nag screen message but kept the button which now says "go". Aside from the background and nag screen though, everything else was the same. So, no modified trip computer and no extra items on the info menu.
Here's the question: Are you sure you applied the nav hack to the BN2HN380 bin file?
Hopefully the answer is no. in which case there is a second question
Second question: What can I do get the properly hacked bin file?
Thank you and have a Happy New Year!

Is there a Linux port for the SH-4
I would like to create a disk for the navi that is completely independent of the original disk. I have heard talk of a Linux port to the SH-4 processor. Did that happen?
I would like to build something based on OpenStreetMap that would be updatable and free. OpenStreetMap

Older Navigation
I recently bought a 2003 Acura TL-S, and I'm loving it so I figured I better make an account, and I already have a question! Are there any hacks for the older Navis? My disc is version 2.60 and there's nothing on Google or the search on here. I just want to get rid of the stinking nag screen.

Just a thought... Not hitting the ok button allows you to turn the screen off which I like... My old TL (07) didnt have nav and I kinda miss it like that lol
If you delete the ok button you wont be able to turn the screen off I dont think.

Push the upper part of the "Settings" button (below screen, left of joystick), then select "Off" for the display.
Hitting any button thereafter will reactivate the display.

you can turn the display off anytime if you go into settings, i did this all the time on long night drives.
Push the upper part of the "Settings" button (below screen, left of joystick), then select "Off" for the display.
Hitting any button thereafter will reactivate the display.

Just want to say thanks! This was super easy, I skipped the splash screen as I had a v3.9 disc and couldn't figure out which bin file to edit. Guys! a quick tip, do not hit okay to open your gps screen. Just hold the buttons immediately and follow the instructions from there. If you load the gps it will immediately go back to splash screen. Hope this helps you. If you need, pay for shipping and I can burn a couple of these discs.

More importantly, it automatically skips the screen of text that comes up every time you start the car so you won't have to press the confirm/ok button anymore to skip that.
The most useful feature, in my opinion, is that there's a trip meter/mpg meter included as well. Instead of now going through the screens on the small LCD next to your speedometer to access that, you can now have a real-time mpg meter display on your nav screen while you are driving.
Another feature is that you can control your climate functions from the screen as well, instead of the physical buttons...although, I've never really had it work properly.

UPDATE JUNE 2017
Hey guys. I'm glad to see that after 2 years of posting this, the months of headaches spent getting to understand the process and know which file does what and where to find it, this still makes some people happy. I know i keep getting messages on youtube about a dead link to this thread and see that my dropbox link has also been broken so i'm updating both as I know this will still be needed for years to come.

I'll try and post a vid of it tomorrow if anyone is interested.

What are the benefits ofhacking your navi?
I mean, what does it do? I see countless threads about how to and what you need to do it, but no one ever says Why someone would want to? What does hacking do????

@mrphilipanderson
1. Allows you to skip the legal/safety warning message and button.
2. Allows you to put a custom splash screen image.
3. Access the diag menu directly.

@keelo
I thought it only works with the orange DVDs. But, you can try it - you won't hurt anything. And you can always put the standard DVD back in and reset it if it doesn't work. No problem.

trip without OK button hack
Hi.
I have it working all perfect.
I am looking for the 401.bin file without the "OK " button hack and just the trip comp, diag menu, ac controls. Yes, I want the to press the ok button after the warning so the display is not always on.Any one have the original HMI.exe and diag.exe? Would it work if u just update the HMI......exe from the downloaded file to the original orange dvd bin?
Thanks in advance for the reply.

Modify the maps on the DVD
Hello Polish Pat,
This is a very nice hack you did, nice job.
My question: is it possible to modify the maps on the DVD?
I live in Nigeria and the stock Nav DVD is only for the USA.
I have a 2006 Honda Accord V6 A/T with Navigation.
Was hoping to utilize the built in Nav system if possible.
Thank you.
