DEBATING aftermarket deck or iphone adapter????help!
Ok so this car is a pain in the ass, the oem deck in the 06 tl sux, I need it to play mp3s it doesnt.
I am debating installing my subs and either a aftermaket deck, or a iphone/ipod hook up.
Problem is I dont want to be changing songs on my iphone while driving to distracting.
The aftermarket deck: Which part of the NON NAV oem system do I loose? what does it look like with a normal deck, non tv deck? I couldnt find pics.
Is the factory alarm good enough to protect against theifs?
Hopefully someone can help me...im lost!

You have a few options you can take:
1. Ipod adapter - this will be the cheapest and easiest solution, plug it in and you're ready to go. It'll charge your Iphone, you can change songs with the wheel (one by one) and you can have a passenger use the iphone at the same time. Downside is that it's hard to scroll through tons of music.
2. Aftermarket deck - this will be labor intensive, and costly, but you get FULL iphone integration. You'll need to have a custom faceplate/mount kit made for the new Head unit. Then you'll need to run the wires to an amplifier, and then to your speakers (you might be able to use stock speakers). Then you must get a steering wheel adapter and run the cables for that as well.
Reguarding the factory alarm, any alarm can be broken into. The factory one is ok, but if you spend over 1K adding the sound system in, i'd suggest adding in a shock sensor and wiring it to the hood latch.

There are several threads discussing the iSimple, plus other threads on the other options. I would start there in your quest to decide which one to buy. They all have their benefits and downsides, but the price is right and the effort involved is very little compared to a full aftermarket replacement.
I have the iSimple and it does allow steering wheel controls. There are several online vendors, just search for it and also I believe Best Buy sells it. I really implore you to read the threads on it, you will find all of the information you are looking for.
