Current best option to repair/replace Nav disc reader?

The Nav on my 2008 TL has grown increasingly fickle over the last year. Occasionally while driving it would spit out the "DVD Disc reading error please consult your dealer." and shut down, then restart a minute later. Now it does it every few minutes, and it takes longer before it attempts to restart each time.

I removed the disc and it's pristine -- absolutely no scratches.

I removed the player and cleaned the lens with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol, but didn't get any visible dirt off it, and after reinstalling the behavior hasn't improved.

So what's the best current option to repair or replace this part? (Or am I asking the wrong question?)

Your best option is probably to send the drive to Alpine in Torrance, CA along with a check tor $380 so it can repair/refurbish the drive.

Is it still $380? I thought I had read the flat rate was recently increased to $470.

Has anyone tried buying one off of ebay from another car, and getting the code from acura to unlock? I'm not sure if they would think that it was stolen and refuse to give the code, even with the original VIN, assuming the ebay seller wasn't a scammer.

I just called to send it back to Alpine and was told a check for $358 would cover it.

All the DVD mechanisms die around age 10. Same for the CD changer in the stereo.
Mine did. Had to send them both out to have them replaced.
