im also considering doing this mod, do the heater and a/c controls work also? how about the touch screen using the heat or a/c? did you have to change/do anything for the radio or is it jus removing the old non navi face and puttin in the navi with lcd in its place?

Though I commend the efforts of those here who've done this conversion, by the time you're done, you could trade in for a Nav model and save yourself tons of headaches considering all the time and $ involved.

I've always said the best part of buying a Navi model right off the bat is that you'll never be amongst the 10's of 1000's of 3G TL owners that didn't looking back afterwards banging their heads against the wall wishing they had.

A lot of instructions on how to remove/replace parts are available in the 3G TL Garage (or can be found with a search). A Helms/service manual will help you swap out the parts. You might want to look into purchasing one. Amazon carries the 2004-2006 Acura TL Factory Service Manual (Paperback).

i traded in my 04AT non-navi ( 47000 miles) for an 05AT w/ navi (25000)..paid a little extra but it beats doing the install myself fearing i may break/screw something up and got a newer car with lower milage for the same price to have a non-navi converted to navi from factory..went with the 05 since 06 didnt have my color choices and im not big into the 07 interior changes

Is there anyone that knows of someone who would be willing to do the conversion in an 04 TL AT? I've tried PB Acura and Coggin Acura and they both claim that this conversion "cannot be done".

By the way great job on the conversion, seems to be a difficult project to say the least.

An Acura dealership will not want to attempt something like this (warranty issues). Your best bet is to find a small privately-owned shop.

Great job!! All those electrical wires remind me of the plastic tubings that I used to deal with when I was a supervisor of a clinical chemistry lab. At that time (about 22 years ago), to troubleshoot a multi-channel (about 15) biochemistry analyzer required lots of patience, because I had to deal with thousands of color-coded tubings that carried chemical reagents, blood or other body fluids. Even today, I still have nightmares about those tubings, which seemed like tentacles of hundreds of octupuses (octupi?) coming at me.

I am just curious... would you be able to sell this vehicle as an "04 TL W/Navi"?

I know your PIN#, when looked up, will say it is a non-navi Acura TL, but will/can this be considered a 'Navi' vehicle?

Thought I'd ask, it's a little issue incase you want to sell, that is if you would ever sell this fine product

btw.... all the parts are from a 2005 model my car is a 2004 they're the same!
my 2004 tsx dvd drive crapped out, and the dealer charges too much 4000 dollars for the part. where can i get a tsx dvd drive for decent price? and can i swap a 2006 dvd drive into the 2004 tsx? hopefully you guys can guide me in the right direction. thanks.

I've posted the following info elsewhere on Acurazine.... but I figure I will spread the news.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to obtain the wire harness connectors without having to buy a bunch of expensive wire harnesses.... I'm selling OEM style, brand-new, connectors with pins that you can crimp yourself. $10/connector - go to geekeng.com and send me an email... let me know what you need, I'm sure I'll be able to hook you up.

GE, do you have the 22pin connectors yet. I constantly check your site but have yet to see them up there.

I, too, had to buy a non-navi TL. I don't need the navigation, but I would have liked the touch screen and voice commands. The non-navi screen is just hideous.

I completely agree, unbelievable job! And yes, I'm one of those who absolutely regret not getting a TL w. Navi. But for those who are on the same boat as I am, check this out:

you could but it would take forever and you have to gut both cars. you see the navi harness is not separate from the the other stuff. its one huge harness for everything in the car, and the navi wires are intertwined through the whole thing.

the best way to do this is to just cut off the connectors and extend them creating a separate harness for the navi stuff.

jptl04, Im about to do the same thing...Thanks alot for this post...It is exactly what I was looking for.
Im gonna take the navi from my friend's 05 tl and install it in mine non-navi 04.
Acura really dissapointed me that they dont have it PREwired like most german cars do.
But I think the only hard part & Something Id love 2 use some help is to find exactly what wires I need to take off friend's 05 navi TL.

Hello all... just boutht a 04 tl w/ nav and wanted to check out the forum.
I see some great information on this forum.
Does anyone know, if I can use a nav and audio unit from an 07 acura tl?
Just wondering if they are compatible?
I just realized my 04 tl audio does not read all mp3's.
I wanted to just change the audio system?
But, have a friend who had an 07 tl w/ nav that got totalled and asked if I wanted the nav and audio unit from his 07?
Can anyone help?
thanks...
