Cleaner bass which sub?

i have a alpine type r 12" in a ported enclosure. about a year ago on my eclipse i use to have a tc-9 from tcsound and it sounded unbelievable. This type r at first it does sound amazing to who ever does not have a sub but to me coming from the tc-9 it sound muddy and not clean. Which sub can i replace with. i already read about the type X being more quality sub but heard but review which people stay that is no different than a type R in most way.

box is more important than sub

You can get an entry level sub to sound damn good in the right box.

what amp do you have?

Agreed with eggy.

build a box custom tailored for the type r, and watch that thing boom!

well i'm pushing it with a 450w alpine which is a true rated power. Now i might be wrong but more amp wouldn't that equal to loudness but not better sound quality since i'm alright pushing it this much.

i know type r are rated 500rms and they can handle well above that. But would it atually sound better? at the moment it does sound hell loud but i want clean.

Its on a generic ported box from amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Atrend-12-Inch...2176707&sr=8-6

but i also do not want a sub taking my entire trunk since i already went through that.

The r is an average sub, but they can sound decent in the right enclosure

Your box is shitty...start from there.

Yes, Designed by the legendary Thilo Stompler.
I have the TC-Sounds TC-1000 (same as the Epic) in the trunk and like it.

what box are you using with this sub? any low profile ported box that can take advantage of the stock sub hole opening of our tl?

Again, you have to build/pay some one to build a box specific to the sub you have.
if you buy a generic box, its going to sound like shit.

each sub is different and has different requirements in order for it to push air.
I recommend you go to google and search for these terms:

How does subwoofers work
building a box for subwoofers
alpine type r specs/air requirements

anywhere i can go (website) to order for a type r made to spec. but would getting a different sub like the tc sound and having a custom made to spec box would help.

like i said i use to have a tc-9 in a box made to spec. It sound it amazing but it also took my entire trunk. This is what i don't want while running just one 12"

what would be the best solution for clean bass and not taking my entire trunk space. i have seen bandpass with teh sub facing inside the car from the rear arm rest. would that be a better solution?

yessir, if you build a bandpass box porting into the armrest with the exact specifications to the type-r sub, im willing to bet you'll enjoy it a lot more.

Bandpass is hard to build and will sound worse than ported if built wrong.

if u wanna save space, get a sub that works in smaller boxes but can take gobs of power.

Check these out

fi q

2 10's sealed would come around to 1.5-1.7 cubes after sub displacement which is pretty small for 1000w drivers.

Power them with a sundown 1500.

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/i...tion/icon.html

These too work in small sealed and can be powered by a sundown 1500

dc lvl 3
http://www.dcsoundlab.com/woofers.html

2 10's sealed would be a little over 1.2 cubes after sub displacement and can be powered by a sundown 1200.
