Chinese Characters on Navi

Hey guys,

Currently, I have an 07 TL-S and it has the 6cd changer and I love how it has the track list. One of the CDs in the deck is an mp3 CD with tons of chinese songs. The titles of the songs include both English letters as well as Chinese characters. However, coming stock the player and navi does not display the characters .... merely leaving them as underscores or blank.

With that said, I was curious if anyone had tinkered with the possibility of having characters from other languages .... not only Chinese characters persay (though, I know they have the TL in China ... curious if their player can display Chinese characters..... just a thought), but perhaps other languages and other roman letters with accents.

I don't know whether or not there may be a "hack" that can enable other "fonts" or perhaps there's a way to integrate part of the Chinese navi-dvd files that contain the language settings into the English navi-dvd??

I'm kinda a n00b when it comes to the software of the TL but perhaps someone else on this forum can enlighten me or perhaps spark a discussion and if it is even possible?? Because if it is ..... heheh Comments anyone??

It's based on Windows CE...if you can hack into the CE Kernel and change a few files, I guess it will work. Not sure if just replacing a font will work, but Microsft Office has one of the Arial unicode true type font that can display many languages.

Hmmm to that, I'm curious then if the navigation system DVD from another country for the same vehicle model would work in the US navi DVD drive. And also, if the vehicles in the other countries (ie. China) show the characters .... I mean, they must right???

Putting those two together, couldn't one just copy over the Chinese language and text files onto a new DVD, combined with the English files and create a system that could display more languages or at least more letters/characters?

Also .... side note .... in the lcd window behind the steering wheel where you can cycle between the trip computer and tire pressure etc .... there's a language setting menu. I'm curious if anyone knows if the TL in China has a "Chinese" setting and if so, would that be considered as part of the internal computer system??

This thread's kinda getting theoretical as I don't really know the answers either hahaha
