Cheapest way to get audio from your iPhone in TL?

OK so I spent the last hour searching because I hate people that don't do that but I can't figure out what search string to use, and I get a gabillion hits for everything I search for and none of the threads have this particular question answered that I could find. Quite simply- I'm using this right now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-CRADLE-FM-TRANSMITTER-REM-OTE-IPHONE-/250636102893?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Other_MP3_Player_Acce ssories&hash=item3a5b136ced

and while functionally its great, it's ugly and the sound quality is crap. I only listen to Pandora in the car and I just want to find something that hard wires into the radio, and charges the phone when it's plugged in. I'd also like to find a nice dock that I could use in conjunction with this that I could mount somewhere on the dash and not have to stick in the damn cigarette lighter, but one that would hold an iPhone with a case. Does such a thing exist? Thanks in advance for the help.

There are a variety of modules such as the Isimple, USASPEC, Phepherial, etc. You will need a Kuda mount to hold it if you want it in a holder, but putting it in the cupholder is usually good enough for most people. Your cost would be at least 100 dollars.

If you want something for better quality in the mean time, just get a tape deck adapter, after all the TL does have an awesome tape deck!

Thanks CS, but I'm pissed I missed this auction on ebay recently for one that was only like 45 dollars. I don't need perfect, and I don't need to control the thing with the factory buttons or anything, just something better than the FM transmitter or tape deck. is there any way to do this for less than 75 bucks?

do you have an Apple AV cord yet? If you do, you could just get an audio rca adapter like the PIE x3... that is the cheapest hardwire method I can think of right now.

Cheapest way? Link the iPhone to your computer and burn the music to a CD or a DVD-Audio, assuming the iPhone is capable of this. (I do not have an iPhone but I have two iPods.) Added bonus: Your steering wheel buttons and your Navi's voice commands will be functional for controlling the playback.

Agreed. It's really not that expensive to do something like this: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/i-160-usa-spec-install-633080/

The *cheapest* would just be a car charger and an minijack cable going into your cars Aux port (or was the aux port only on certain years?)

I just have both of mine running into the cig lighter and aux port in the center console and whenever I want to use it I just plug it in.

Aux ports were only available on 07-08 models.

Go with the iSimple, just put it in yesterday and the sound quality is great. Take the console apart though, so much easier and only takes a few minutes to disassemble.

Can't help you with the case/cigarette lighter issue, but I bought a Kensington LiquidAUX for $35 on Amazon a while back, and love it. I didn't want the hassle of installing an iSimple, or any of the other solutions. The connector charges your phone when the battery is not 100%, and has a wireless remote that you can attach to your steering wheel or parking break.

I think his is a pre-aux year TL. Otherwise, this is the route I would have gone, just a simple aux cable would have sufficed for me too.

I have one of these two and although every now and then my iPhone will say "accessory not compatible.." I still love it.
If you have an 04-06 TL then I suggest going with the iSimple. I hear great things about that one

Anyways, here is a lnk to the PIEx3 59.99:

Here is the plug and play harness for the TLs 29.99:

Plus you will need an RCA cord for your iPhone/iPod. If you have a newer 3GS you will need the one from apple. The ebay ones dont work. This cord runs around 50.00 NEW.

So 130.00 for all the parts. iSimple is 150.00 NEW at Best Buy. So, it is up to you and what you want.

Where's the location of the auxiliary port on the 07-08?

Nothing obvious on the front. I was looking this morning to find info on ipod/iphone connection to the car and wondering why it wouldn't be blue tooth.

there is a headphone jack looking plug in the center console in the lower of the 2 storage compartments. You just need to plug your ipod or MP3 player into that and press the aux button on the radio

I have used the power plug there, but didn't notice any other outlets. I'll check more thoroughly today.

Found it, right below the Power plug. I have my lower compartment filled and it's not easy to see without some light.

I had looked around the center radio cluster area and saw nothing there or in the 2 storage compartments where I would have expected it to be.
