CD Text

Does the 07 and 08 factory TL radio's display CD Text?

For example, if you burn a cd with cd text embedded, does it display? I have done this on multiple cd's, but ever since I have this 05 TL, its plain jane. No cd text.

don't know about non-nav but nav does display text...but it won't scroll so your title will get cut off.

well, ya I have seen text from Xm radio.. but CD text is a bit different. The cd player has to be able to read CD text and then display it. We know the TL can display text.. but from a CD is the question. Specifically, the newer models, like the 07/08 systems.

Oh thats cool, I didnt know it displayed MP3 titles. hmm are you sure it doesnt display cd text? A cd has to be written specifically with CD text in order to display cd text. Factory made, pre-recorded CD's do not come with CD text. So if you are trying to display a song title from an "off the shelf" cd, then it won't display anything because cd text is not written to CD's from the manufacturing facility.. Like any cd with a pre-recorded artist..

The '08 type-S does display a CD's title and song titles if you burn the CD that way.

Will it read CD's in mp3 format? And not regular CD text.

It reads both. Just use the Display Mode button on top of the sound knob (right) to change what it displays up top. You can choose from artist, folder, title, and even mp3 tags.

when I push the display/mode button nothing happens. Does this mean this button is inop?? I am using a new cd and not a burned one, so Im guessing it should read the text. Anyone have any suggestions or encountered this problem??

new cd's dont come with cd text. you have to burn a cd with cd text.. I already said that. But MP3 files are already tagged when you save them as a .mp3

in other words, a .mp3 file will automatically display the files name because of the tag that is embedded in the mp3 file..

But an uncompressed cdda file, aka wav, has to be written with cd text enabled.

and if you want to know why you still have a slight skip in your music cd's even after you tell the burner to remove the 2 second gap, that will cost you $10. I take paypal.

haha

but here is a clue..
mp3 tags
mp3 conversion
wav file editing / cutting
wav file burning

never burn a .mp3

Sorry OP for the slightly off-topic question, but when burning a mp3 disk and skipping songs there is a long delay (about 2 seconds) to get to each song. Anyway to reduce the amount of time for it to switch to the next song?

BlKAC06: I know the 05 does not display cd text. But mine doesn't do mp3's either. I would be very surprised if even an 07/08 TL displays CD text. Because I'm not sure if these guys really know what CD text is..

VP55: what is your question.

Maybe you would believe the TL owner's manual?

at the bottom of that owner's manual page it says 08 TL so I take it, it is not the same for 04-06 TLs?? I put a CD with text and MP3 CD with text neither works. CD with text doesnt show up and MP3 CD ejects after trying to read disk and displays "FORMAT" and ejects.

Thats right. The 07 and 08's have more features. But as far as I know, even the 07's may not have cd text capability.

My question was when you skip to another song in an MP3 disk, how can you make the delay in switching songs quicker. Currently when you skip a song it takes a second and a half gap to get to the next song. You mentioned something about not putting it as a MP3 disk but a wma? Not a big deal just curious.

well, hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but its not possible with an MP3 to do that. The "tag" is at the beginning of the song, and it appears to the player as a period of "silence".. Interestingly enough, even when you convert the mp3 to wav, it also appears as silence EVEN THOUGH the tag is not there!... SO, to remove the skip (or actually the period of silence), you must convert the mp3 to wav.. then open the wav in a "wav editor", (I use Goldwave), and then select the "flat area" at the beginning and the end of the song, and delete it, then resave it back to a wav.. And fyi, you can't resave back to an mp3, because if you do, it will add the tag once again.... So you have to convert to wav, then edit the wav, and resave it as a wav, and then burn the wav with a "0 second" delay between the songs to remove any skips between the songs.

Oh btw, that will be $20 dollars please.. I read many articles and tried over and over to achieve what I just told you in 5 minutes in plain english. I learned this in 2005ish... Seriously, I spent hours and hours trying to figure out how to remove the skip between the songs even after I told the burner to "remove the 2 second gap"... So I finally figured it out.. and the reason was because I had a period of silence between each song...and that was emulating a skip! And I saw that period of silence was part of the file that I was burning in the wav editor. And every time I deleted the silence and resaved it as an mp3, it added the silence back in... (as it should have, because a mp3 has an mp3 tag, which appears as silence to the player).. So the only way to remove the silience at the beginning of the song was to delete it, then save it as a .wav.. which is CDDA. or "uncompressed audio".. THEN I told the burning software (nero) to remove the 2 second gap, and I burned the wav...and finally it worked! It took me forever... trying to figure that out..

So $20 please... =)
