$35 - pcmcia add-on card
$65 - scan converter
$43 - usb touch controller
$31 - components from digikey
$10 - small usb keyboard, meant to be used with xbox or PS2
$90 - blitzsafe adapter

Stuff I already had:

usb gps receiver
linksys 802.11b card

Total: $824
I'm sure there was some other stuff I'm missing. So probably closer to $850.

It could have been done for less, but I didn't really want to be cheap on things.
Could have gotten slower mobo/processor, less ram, smaller HD, doesn't really need a DVD burner,

Thanks everyone for the compliments on my setup!! I'm VERY happy with how it turned out.

Anyone looking to go a little less extreme and just add a dvd player? I have a Dom's tvandnav2go unit for sale in the black market.

met152,
iI was wondering if you could post an updated price list. Prices have definitely come down and I am sure components have changed since your installation last January. Have you kept up with the latest components and or prices? I have been trying to send you a private message but unfortunately I am still unable to do so. Can you send me an e-mail, I am very interested in your set up and have been in discussion with ITL to see if this can happen. Let me know, thanks.

well, the prices depend on what you want. If you want the pc pre-assembled and ready to go, PM me as I have everything and waiting for it to go. Only components that I can see that might have been changed is the PC itself for something with higher processing power.

Met, thanx for the great setup! However, I have been reading this over and over ( perhaps im not reading it right), but i am very confused on how to get a video signal with the scan converter. where would you tap and run the wire from the Navi to the Scan Converter?. Is there a diagram or pointer you can give me to complete this Mod? Everything else I can understand very clear, but except for that.

Thanx

Met, I jumped to the end of this thread so please forgive me if you have already done this. A slingbox would enable you to watch live tv through your dun connection and on nights and weeekends should be free......great set up.....

How sad that this thread is dying..

Is it picking up anywhere else?

Here's an update that I think would benefit everyone's Honda/Acura CarPC. It's not new, but I haven't seen it in the entire thread:
http://car2pc.com/

Car2PC has an interface that allows you to control your CarPc from your OEM stereo buttons on the dash an on your steering wheel. They have a video on their site. This seems like a better option than the other audio inputs and definitely better than any stinkin' old FM modulator.

I'm looking for a Scan Do 800 but are there any other scan converters that will meet our needs for this type of install? From earlier in the thread, we would want one thats powered from USB/PS2 or has a 5Vdc power requirement. You also need it to output RGBS. Met asked the question earlier whether there was a diff between RGB and RGBS; anyone know?

I've got a 2003 Honda Accord with OEM NAVI/XM and I'm determined to figure out the pinouts so that I can control the CarPc via touchscreen. fpena06 posted many pics of his unit on a previous page and I've got the same deal. Does anyone have the wiring diagram of the Honda OEM Navi or know where I can get one.

Many thanks to Met152 and all others that have contributed to this thread. I am absorbed and now have trouble sleeping. Please do not let it die so soon.

I asked a while back if this could be done on a 2G TL and was told to get some pics. Here they are

you need pictures of the internals of the screen to see if there is a touch-screen wire that we can tap into using the same method as met152.

you will need that program that controls the video card, I think it was called powerstrip or something of the nature.

My screen is flinking to but today im going to ground the vga pinout and see what happens. But the roadrunner is pissing me off. I can't set my screen at 800x600 because the oem screen can't handle it!For

Hey Met quick question bro. I'm doing this at home right now I bought all the pinouts I just need to wire everything although I have one slight concern. How did you integrate the Touchscreen Drivers into windows? Was it plug and play or did you need to go through a procedure to install them...

did you buy the 4 wire resistive controller, the same one met152 and I bought? If so there's a file on the buying site that has the software for it. Also be careful wiring the pin-outs!

I should be ok wiring altogether. I have access to mitchell and alldata wiring diagrams for the navigation system. Anything specific that you might want to warn me about? ^^ And I see the resistive controller now I'll purchase that, trying to find a sturdy module since my trunk will probably tear anything apart if it's not tough.

Edit: Also my navigation screen has 5 wires for the touch screen...

I did this project about a year and a half ago and truly haven't touched it since. I was disapointed in the video quality. Ive been thinking of ways to overcome this obstical and I think that the best solution is to replace the stock lcd with a vga screen, all the while still retaining the stock navigation. I think this guy might have a good start. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-...-acura-tl.html
I would be looking for a way to:
1) replace stock lcd screen with a screen with 2 inputs, a vga (computer) and rgbs (stock nav).
2) retain stock navigation functionality
3) retain stock touchscreen functionality
anyone with any ideas, I'm open to suggestions. I would like to revive this project.
I think I would need the wiring diagram for the navigation unit and the control screen, anyone have these?

what? 5 wires, I need a photo of this since the FFC wire is only 4 positions in the TL.

Use little soldering when connecting together the connectors and esp the 4 wires to the relay. This can cause a resistance change and screw up the voltages from the navi-screen.

For those interested in carputers you need to check out Centrafuse as your front-end software. It is a lot better than RoadRunner IMO. The only downside is that it costs $.

http://www.fluxmedia.net/

And http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/ for any carputer problems/questions/information.

Nice job!.. I must say though.. that antiquated rustic toggle switch is not doing anything for the car.. lol.. watch out for spilled coffee. I would have opted for a blue illuminated rocker switch.. the plus side would be illuminated cup well..
