Car PC / Mac Mini

I've always wanted to put a PC in my car, for various reasons. Now that I have a car with a built in LCD, and have seen the various Video adapters for the Nav system, I think my dream is at least one step closer to reality.

Has anyone else made an attempt at integrating any sort of PC, small form factor or otherwise, into their TL?

TLs with the Navigation systems do have touchscreens, but from what I've heard, it would be insanely hard to tap a computer or other aftermarket device into the touchscreen.

I have, long before I considered posting. And if YOU do a search, you will find that none of them were nav-equipped cars to begin with. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

No need to be hostile, just because you did not specify clearly that you are looking for a Nav equiped carputer .

My intention is not to be hostile, but I did specify, more or less, and the other reply I made here would imply the same. Although I didn't directly say "I have a navi-equipped car and am looking for car PCs installed in navi-equipped vehicles" I think the implication is fairly obvious.

I apologize for sounding hostile, I suppose I could be a little defensive from dealing with overly sarcastic and hostile posts on this and other forums I've frequented recently.

crashish:

I've been thinking about doing the same if/when I buy a TL. My last car had a carpc, and I'm thinking about doing another in my next car (probably a mac mini too).

Do you know the resolution of the NAVI screen, and if any of the navi video adapters have VGA or DVI inputs?

A low resolution screen or input will make the text blurry and difficult to read.

Interfacing with the touchscreen controller may be difficult too. You might get lucky if its a standard controller and you find pin layouts and drivers online.

Don't know the resolution off-hand, but I do know that there's at least one unit on the market with VGA and/or S-Video, and that one or both of the module sold on this forum interface via VGA. DVI is doubtful, but I would love to see one.

And yeah, everything I've read points to the touchscreen being proprietary, so I'm not holding out much hope for that. I'm already looking for bluetooth keyboards & mice to use with the PC.
