I have an 04 TL with the original NAVI interface. I just had a loaner TL and thought that the NAVI interface was a lot better looking. Does anyone know what is required to get the 08 style interface in the 04 TL? Will the DVD software upgrade the interface as well as updating the maps? Is there a newer trunk mounted computer that's required? Thanks.

 

You going to need a whole new navi computer, dvd player.... 04 uses 3.XX where as 08 model uses 4.XX Its got a pretty much new system in it.

you will need the following:
New DVD drive
New XM unit
New XM antenna
You will need to rewire the the car or run new wires for the updated items such as the XM nav traffic and the updated screen.

Overall this would cost about 2+K with labor.

 

you could buy the updated dvd for your year and be happy enough!

 

though it would be the OLD GUI and also not give him XM nav traffic, Zagat ratings and a few other things. But it is a good alternative, if you want to spent the 185 dollars for it.

 

is 08 the only year for this or does 06 or 07 have it also??

 

07 has it as well. If you gonna put that much loot into your navi, just do a CarPC

What I'm curious about is, what if you JUST change the DVD player in the trunk? Would you get a working 07 nav without the traffic?

 

well in my case..yes...but..you will not be able to call out using your navigation (i use the side steering buttons) no nav traffic..but the navigation gude itself will work..right now i having issues with my clock display unit after 1am to 12 pm...it might be i need a newer clock display unit..for now i can live with it

 

the components will show errors and not function properly. to the poster above, did you put in an 07+ dvd drive into an 04-06 tl? If so, does your radio work from the nav?

 

my radio is the stock 04 and it works perfect other then xm radio not working properly my fm/am stations are fine and it works thru the navi showing the stations when i press the button to adjust base,treble.etc it shows on the screen the sliders and move fine..the errors you talk of is me not having back up camera,the new updated stock xm unit...the disk i have is the 4.6 white...i did the trick to get out of the diag menu that is common when updating with the new disk,everything runs perfect other then my display clock acting strange from 1am to 12pm

 

the display unit is different for 07+ TL's than 2004 TL's. There is a Dolby light and a few other ones on there that can cause issues. Try replacing that clock display.

So what would it cost someone who wants their 04' TL to have the 08 radio etc?
If you had your dealership do it? Replace it all?

From what I can tell the 07/08 now allows scrolling text? Color changes? What else?
