burning dvd-a
Hey everyone, I was wondering how (or if) you guys burn audio DVDs to play in your TL? I did a little looking around online and could not find any clear directions on how to do it, so I figured I'd post a new thread. The last DVD I tried to burn with MP3's, my deck just spit it out with a "FORMAT" message.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I had the opposite experience. My player wouldn't play DVD+Rs but will play DVD-Rs and RWs. I use Cirlinca DVD-Audio Solo to copy CD .wav tracks to a DVD-RW. Adobeman posts his own freeware to do the same thing, but it was still a work in progress when I bought the Cirlinca. Maybe more important, his "Adobinizer" program slices and dices two-channel CD .wav tracks into 5.1 surround .wav tracks--most stuff processed that way sounds awesome. Gives you something to listen to when the commercially available 5.1s all seem to be the Moldovan State Orchestra playing Mozart favorites.

I have the program, but r u sure MP3 DVDs can be played in a stock player?? does it not have to support mp3 format?????

You can not play a DVD which has MP3 files burned to it. If you have a 2007 or newer TL, then use a CD to burn MP3 files.
DVDs will only play the DVD-Audio format. You can use Abodeman's program to create a DVD-Audio disk.
I know, 4.3 GB of MP3 files on a single DVD sounds like a great idea, but unforturnately, it can't be done.

"MP3" and "great" do not belong in the same paragraph unless you're saying something like "I never realized how great uncompressed music sounds compared to the crap .MP3s that all these kids play nowadays."

But the MP3's are still compressed. If you were able to take the original .WAV file and split it out to 5.1 surround and play it, you'd notice a BIG difference. Especially on that system in your 09 TL. That is what they are talking about above.

Click on Adobeman's signature and you find out how to make a DVD-A for your car, but it isn't a 1-2-3 procedure. It takes time.

1 Rip WAV tracks from a CD or a sound editing capture.
2 Open up Cirlinca DVD Audio Solo, Adobeman's program, or another
program that burns DVD-As. Arrange your tracks as you wish.
3 Burn a DVD-A. You now have a DVD-A whose content is your WAV
tracks. The sound is CD quality.
4 If you want 5.1 you need to download Adobeman's "Adobinizer"
program and process each of your WAV tracks before you lay
them in and burn your DVD-A. It's somewhat artificial, but the
results are usually surprisingly good.
You can lay in MP3 tracks and make a DVD-A out of them, but 04 through 06 TLs won't play them. 07-08 may, I don't know. In order to play MP3 tracks in an 04-06 you have to rip them, process them into WAVs using a program like WaveMP3, then burn them to DVD. Why you would want to do that, and why, other than simple convenience you would in any case want to listen to music in MP3 format in our cars is a mystery to me. Our systems show up the lower fidelity of MP3s pretty noticeably.

There is Cirlinca Solo that's been mentioned, DiskWelder and Wavelab. Maybe a few others. Cirlinca is the easiest to use and least expensive afaik.

The DVD needs to be authored in the DVD-A format. Not many DVD burning programs have that since it is not a mass market format.

"paulpain," there are two steps in burning a DVD-A. First you have to create the DVD-A structure, which requires specific software that can write that format. Then you have to burn the relevant files onto a DVD-A, which you can do with pretty much any software that lets you burn files to a DVD (Roxio came with my PC and it's worked fine for this purpose). Note that if you run Adobeman's software using Vista, you won't see the two .ISO files when you change to the directory where they're stored. Click the button that says something like "View Compatibility Files" and then you'll see them.
