I just tested some CD-r's w/ my Bose oem deck in my 99 TL and it seems to work. What I see is the problem is when I do a FF search, It takes about 10-20 seconds to play that track I select. If I just play the whole cd w/o messing w/ the skip buttons the songs play like a pefect cd. lol

I am using Memorex & TDK CD-r.

I am going to burn another CD-r at a low rate speed of 16X on my external dvd/cd burner and see if it will help any better.

If we talk old school. I have a old Iomega (when they made awsome products) CD burner called The Predator that is like 4X max speed. I wonder if that dinosaur cd burner will be he true cure. Want me to test that one then???

I did not pull out my old Iomega CD burner, but I did use my exteral LG Firewire burner and burned at slow a$$ speed of 10X and still no diggity. Still takes a lot of time to play the music cd-r in my 99 stock HU. It sucks. I think I will just play my original cds in the HU. Just got to remember to take care of the cd's better since they are my originals. I perfer not to replace my HU. I think it play just fine. The might BOSE.lol

Ok, here is my mighty report.

* Wasted 3 TDK CD-r
* Still does not work right.

-Here is what I did.

1st CD-R burnt w/ my MAC w/ my LG firewire burner at 10X speed putting on 74 minutes worth of music.
**Result in 99 TL, HU,,, takes a long time to play a song. 30+ seconds to get a song going. Once it plays all is ok, untill you stary FF or Skip to next song.

2nd Burn-
Fo Get it!! Pulled out the old might 4x burner by Omega (usb 1.1)
*1st cd-r did the same as the MAC (above) . Plays in the HU just like above.

3rd Burn-
4x Iomega old school burner again. But this time I put only about 50 minutes of songs.
Popped CD-r into the HU. same thing.

-------Final Theory------
The HU sucks for playing CD-r's no matter how fast, slow or how many megs you put on the CD-r.. the HU just does not play them for a damn. So let me just say the TDK is not cheap a%$ media. I play these same cd-r's in my 03 Tahoe or my home dvd players and the songs play perfect. My solution to each and one of you that are trying to play CD-rs in your 99 HU should just give it up. If you want to play CD-r's its just best to buy a HU that will play them (replace the BOSE hu).

- I will try to give CD-R *AUDIO disks a shot, but my bottom dollar is "STILL NO WORKEY"

Today, I just purchased a 10 pk of CD-R AUDIO disc's.

I put on 10 songs at 500mb and burned it at 12X. Then put it into my HU and same results.

Forget about it.

Ok 1 more time. Majority of others here reported that they use Memorex CD-R audio / music disks. I gave this one a shot.

Instead of going super slow on my old school burner, I decided to burn at 32X w/ my LG external burner on my MAC. My results were much better. I put the disk in and it only takes about 3 seconds to read and play. As I hit the SKIP button, it takes about 6-8 seconds to play that song you select.
So in result, looks like my 99 HU likes these disks better. I looked at the codeing on the bottom of the CD-r disk on the memorex and it was chrome shinny color. Unlike other media I tested that the media codeing was like a light blue.

The one's I got are right here: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=1166822
I got mine at my local Wal-Mart.

I have had a 100% success rate using Verbatim "DataLife PLUS" CDR media regardless of the burner used or the speed of the burn. I have had spotty results at best with any other brand of media.

THANKS A LOT...
What were you doing for a year and a half before you decided to burn at a low speed?

this is a shot in the dark but.. has anyone had their HU replaced by the dealer b/c it couldn't play cd's (burned ones)? I didn't used to have this problem until several months ago, so.. there must have been some wear and tear on some part of the cd player somewhere.

As far as getting an aftermarket system installed, what looks best? Just don't want my dash to look crappy after I have something installed.

I would love to get something that has either XM/Sirius as well as iPod interface. Alpine?

Your CD Burner dose play a vital role.

I read the whole breakdown about why the bose system wont read certain burned cd's etc. I understood everything that was said and i figured i would put the theory (It depends on you what cd burner your using to burn the cd) to test. First i took a cd that i had burned from my older computer using an LG burner and tried that in the car. It plays it but when i change to next track it has a hard time reading it and takes a while before it actually starts playing. Next i took that same cd and made a duplicate copy of it on my SONY burner. Tried that one and the one from the Sony had better results. It played it but didnt take as long to play the cd when i would change to the next track. Next i made another duplicate copy of the same cd except with my NEW DELL burner. That copy from the DELL burner ended up being the solution to my problem and proved that this Theory is absolutely true. The brand of cd that i used during this test i did is the COMP USA CD-R 80Min 700meg From the Comp USA store. They have a white print on top. Try making multiple copies of a CD you have from different burners you might have, and see for yourself which burner will give you the best burn and make it so that the car wil play it. If the BOSE system is gona play the cd, its all gona depend on what burner your using to burn the cd. Try this test for yourself and youll see.

Just bought an 02 TL w/ Nav and have not had a problem with any of my burned CDs. I was suprised to see this thread considering I have played CD-Rs that have come from multiple sources and use different disks. I am crossing my fingers that one day it doesn't crap out on me!
