Box design question

I'm designing a sub box for 4 12" woofers (infinity reference 1260w's). I have come up with two designs to meet the suggested internal volume of each woofer (1.25 CF), one that is almost a perfect square, and is taller (therefore has more space on the sides) and another that will fit almost perfectly horizontally, but will be shorter vertically.

My question is: which box will be more likely to be louder? One that has more space on each side (say 3-4" per) and is 15" tall, or one that has almost no space on the sides, but is only 12" tall?

My gut is telling me the taller box will be louder, due to the fact that the air moved by the subs won't have to travel as far to reach the cabin (the stock sub will be removed), but I'm not really sure.

Any advice is highly appreciated!
