Bluetooth "Rifle" and Bluetooth security concerns!!

Check out this scary story about bluetooth phone hijacking and the gear they use to do it. Pretty scary. Wonder if someone in an adjacent car could hijack our HFL signal?!!!

This ain't the new news anymore. It sounds more like CIA/FBI technology.

However, how serious damage will this "steal" make? If comparing with "Garage opener" scrambler, which one is more dangerous to you and your property?

I suspect this BT scrambler has to be staying with you in a few feet range... and following you all the time...

Whenever I pull up to a TL, I try to use my P900 and bluejack them.

Considering BT has such a short range (it's only accurate within 10 feet I think, with a max range of around 100 feet), someone would have to be pretty much sitting in the passenger seat to do this effectively. Most people don't have access to a BT "rifle" or the software that these guys developed, so this is probably not a major concern for most people. But, this does reinforce the fact that NO technology is 100% safe. It takes constant vigilance on the part of the user. Keep your BT disabled until you actually get in to your car or until you need it. Check your phone periodically to see if any calls were made that you don't recognize. Just use common sense and implement a few security checks of your own and you won't have any problems.

And shame on you, Mobilezen...

Rets, I know this isn't new news but just knowing that they have a "rifle" that can bluejack from a mile away is proof enough that anything can happen if a would be thief were so inclined. But like msisaac says, it's really not that much of a concern. As far as what damage can be done, the article said that passwords, credit card info, and other personal info can be taken from those who actually store that type of stuff on their phones. I'd say that could be more damaging then stealing stuff from your garage.
