Bluetooth location and removal in 2006 TL
Ok I have been asking where the bluetooth module is in my TL and how to remove it. Couldn't find the answer after searching acurazine.
Well after using the right words in google I found the acura technical bulletin that tells you where it is and how to remove it.
http://techinfo.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/B05-020.PDF
Save the pdf file in case that link disappears.
My only question is it says if you have navigation there is a delay module that you have to replace. If the HFL is locking up do you still have to replace the delay module. Also when you buy the part from acura do you get both.
I am hoping to find my part on ebay.
Interesting to note it states that the bluetooth causes a "parasitic draw" on the battery. So all those people, like me, who have had battery issues it may be due to the bluetooth module not working properly.
If anyone finds a good deal on the bluetooth module let me know. I have found it for $495 on line, but am still holding out for ebay.

It is in the overhead console with the map lights. There is a DIY out there somewhere.
Pop the sunroof switch out with a feeler guage - it is just a snap-in fit. Screwdriver might scratch it. Disconnect the switch.
Reach up in that hole that you just made and with 2 fingers and pull down. That will remove the map light.
Then, there are 4 8MM or 10MM bolts. that hold on the trim piece. Disconnect the wires as you need to.
The module is in there.
Good luck with ebay - I look ever few days. I call junk yards ever few days too, but most won't sell to me because they sell this with a front clip.

jda123 thanks for the info. If you look at this link :
http://techinfo.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/B05-020.PDF
it will give you the play by play schematic of how to remove it.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an aftermarket unit I can replace it with. Or if I can use a newer module that allows bluetooth streaming audio. Of course it would have to be plug and play. I know johnson controls sells an aftermarket unit, but would it be plug and play. The acura price for this thing is ridiculous.

I've been dealing with the parasitic draw that has caused me to replace my optima battery 4 times in the past 2 years and 2 months. Finally figured out that it was the faulty bluetooth module in the overhead console. Removed it, and PRESTO! No draw at all. I never really used the bluetooth since I bought the car in 2008, so I don't plan on replacing it. Especially if it's $500 for a factory replacement. I think Acura should pay me for the price of the battery I "had" to buy! I won't hold my breath...

Go to the following link and follow the instructions. The TSB is listed in the thread.

Please help, when you install the new Bluetooth module, do you have to disconnect the battery? Someone told me I have to disconnect the battery before install the new module otherwise my car will reprogram the module and the bluetooth wouldn’t function correctly. What is your experience of the installation?

I changed out my TL's HFL without disconnecting the battery; the HFL is still working well.

Thanks, Did you change out the module behind the navigation or the just the overhead bluetooth module? Do you know where to find the module in reasonable price?

The delay box behind the navi unit was an addition to make operation smoother for the system. list price for the kit listed in that bulletin is around $980 or so. compared to a HFL unit thats anywhere between 160-230 depending on dealer. Me persnally would just swap out the HFL(hands free link) unit. the kit price is steep.

Acuraoemparts.com (Delray Acura) is also a vendor; you should check its listed price as well. Some Acura dealerships price-match, so that's another route you can check.
A long thread on the HFL unit is at https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/bluetooth-fails-792642/; start reading after post 212.

One vendor link: http://www.oemacuraparts.com/product...p-a02za-acura/
You'll need to search for the proper year and bezel color, though.
You can Google search our other vendors as well to get the best price.
