Bluetooth HFL Pronounced Dead by Dealer

A week ago, my HFL just stopped working....it would drop the calls, and now it simply won't operate at all. I cannot even find the phone and the phone cannot find it....the whole 9 yards. I thought it was the phone, so I tried the phone with other BT devices, and it works fine.

I took it to Acura, and an addition to having to replace the serepentine belt tensioner ($320-350), they quoted me, $650 to replace the bluetooth assembly. This is ridiculous, he told the part alone on the bluetooth is $540, and then labor on top of that. Is this true?

Please tell me there is some other way to get this thing working and not have to pay a fortune for it. I am just upset since I have had many many problems with my 3G TL (has nav/6mt if it matters) since I purchased it. I am running into $5-6K of repairs one way or another every year without even putting any thought into it - not so great in my opinion.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

See following thread, with new parts prices and directions: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/hfl-upgrade-705169/

Another member here recently pulled an HFL module from a wrecked TL, which decreased the replacement cost considerably.

This looks more like a complete conversion. I don't think I am really looking to do that, I don't even know what the difference between the 05 and the 08 HFL models. I am really just trying to get mine to work....I am not sure that I need to be removing the steering wheel and the airbag to do so? If that type of work is involved, I'd rather have a dealer/mechanic do it, because I am not going to go ripping my car apart only to be stuck putting it back together.

Do you know if acuraoemparts sells the actual module that I need? Is it one piece, or many? My acura dealer quoted me a pretty firm $540 for parts.

Jeeze... OK, for a simpler HFL replacement-only guide, look at this: http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/B05-020.PDF

Another member had the HFL/sunroof switch/map light housing fall down, but it was goodwilled-- he was originally quoted $500+ because the HFL was attached to the housing. See https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/overhead-map-light-assembly-734924/.

I have no clue what acuraoemparts, Rock Auto, etc. will charge compared to the dealerships, whose prices for the same item can & do vary.

Question, if the unit is coming in and out randomly (more so when I first start the car), do you think it can be repaired or could it just be a faulty wire, etc.

The dealer obviously said they won't know till they get into it....but if it needs to be replaced we are looking at a nice chunk of change.

I snagged an HFL for an '04 off eBay which works OK in my '06 TL for $65 including shipping.

Installation is very easy.
