If you're not good with electronics, find someone who can do it for you- first, I would clean the contacts with contact cleaner spray from Radio Shack- spray on the female end on the board, plug harness into it, and wait 30 minutes for the stuff to evaporate so you don't get a short (potentially)- if that doesn't work, take the board out and see if someone you know can do the soldering for you.

This is the exact cap I bought- it's a surface mount cap from www.mouser.com:

667-EEE-FK1H221P
Panasonic Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - SMD
220UF 50V

It was $1.12 + shipping.
Hello the picasa link is not valid anymore. Any one has the pictures i want to replace the cap on 06 TL.

thanks in advance

Baked both boards today and it is currently repaired. FYI....for some reason I baked the boards component side down and discovered the coil in the bottom of the pan but, I re soldered it successfully. Possibly a poor connection there??

Thanks to all who contributed here.

Not necessarily poor. What you're doing by baking it is reflowing all the solder. This means you're returning it to a liquidous state and coils are heavy since they're usually copper wire wrapped around a ferrous metal.

Add me to the list of bakers! Actually baked it a second time unnecessarily because I didn't understand where to add the code on my phone. So I thought it wasn't pairing when it actually was and baked it again. Been a month and it still works if it quits...I'll break out the cookie sheet!

Currently, I'm having the same problems as you guys are with my 06' TL. Whenever I push the buttons on the steering wheel I get no response from the bluetooth unit. However, once in awhile my bluetooth will work and my smartphone will sync.

So I was wondering is this a sign that my module is going bad? I made an appointment for my dealership to do a diagnostic.

Today, I removed the bluetooth module until I receive a replacement. Since it'll take about a week for the shipment, will anything happen to the battery with the module disconnected?

Nope. If anything, it'll make your battery charge last longer.

Sorry for the thread revival, but I got problems with my handsfreelink, and I have something I want to clarify before ordering a new module.
This discussion seems to be the most technically advanced among other.

My car is a Canadian 04 TL automatic NAVI

My radio stops working 3 weeks ago and I ordered/installed a replacement one on ebay, a brand new unit from factory-radio.
The seller had no 1TB1 NAVI (04 canadian TL) but told me that the 1TB3 NAVI (06 canadian TL) will replace it with no problems. So I bought it.

Everything works fine, exept that I noticed last week that my Handsfreelink was not working. (first time I used it since new radio installation)

I had the endless booting-up message bug as many of you, no sound at all when I pressed the talk button, the diagnostic mode shown for seconds but terminate with no information available message.
I changed the capacitor and cleaned connectors as the recommendations discussed on this tread with no success.

Note that when I do the Navigator diagnostic, the HFL is shown as plugged, the mic is working, general vocals commands for the navi & radio works also.

THE question: conincidence, or this trouble is caused by the 06 radio fitted in the 04 car…

You know the hardware works so it's most likely going to be the HFL module. I doubt using a newer radio and/or navi module has anything to do with the handsfree link if they share the same hardware but only one is used for bluetooth.

This unit makes some weird things, that is why I suspect it to be the source of this failure.

-Supposed to plays mp3, did not
-When it plays a cd/dvd and I eject a cd by pressing once and quickly the eject button, it eject all disks. (like if you press & hold eject for 3 seconds)
But when the radio is shuted off, it eject one by one... (I never found a setting for this feature)

And then this handsfreelink stops working since this unit is installed...

I will reput the original back in this week-end, what a waste of time unmounting all the console for that...

No.

Our stock radio can not stream music through bluetooth like newer cars. The only thing our bluetooth is good for is connecting to your phone so you can talk hands-free.

The MP3 function is most likely mp3 data CD's

I had to replace my Bluetooth module. I think it cost around $140. The dealer wanted $900 installed. I bought the part myself for $140 and installed myself.

I did the same a while back, but they are more like $190, and it takes about 5 mins to install.

^You want the capacitors to be facing the top of the oven, basically the main board should be the base. On top of four pieces of tinfoil balled up, to keep it off the cookie sheet.

Edit:My BT module has been workin since June, after the Baking method.

I was told to order part # 39770-SEP-A02ZA by another member. My fault for not verifying the part number. This is for the 04-06. I need the 07-08 unit.

Acura of Pedria won't take returns on electronics. I paid 179.00. WIll sell for $160.00 =$20.00 savings if anyone is interested. PM me. Comes in original packaging from Acura with sales receipt.

My only question for the baking method is, do I bake this side up or down? I tried looking at the baking link and it seems like they baked it with this side down? I know this is a 04-06 board and my car is a 07, but does baking it one way or the other have any effect on it? I'm guessing not however I just wanted to make sure.

I baked the cards on my '05 TL (no nav) and the problem went away. Bluetooth works like new, and it's been like that for the past month. I baked the cards with those components facing upwards, as depicted in the photos in the preceding post. Separate the two joined cards like a sandwich and bake them with the middle bits facing "up."

Howdy!

Howdy everyone, just another guy whose wife's 2006 TL HF no longer works (actually hasn't worked for 1.5 years!). Finally got around to reading ALL 16 PAGES of this subject and know enough to not bother replacing the capacitor. Took unit out and let it hang while I pressed on the plug and the dashboard display stopped it's "Booting Up" message and said "Main Menu". Wouldn't take any of my commands though so right now we is a baking fool. My wife walked by, smelled the oven on, opened the door, saw the fancy dancy looking circuit board that looks expensive (it is!), looked at me, shook her head and didn't say a word. Gotta run... that's the 9 minute timer going off. Next post hopefully is full of good news!

Strike one. At least I heard my car talk again but it would not take any commands such as System, phone setup or pair. Doing the re-bake now. Also talked to my local Acura Svc Advisor yesterday and asked for some goodwill. Told them that several dealers had repaired the system for $58. We'll see what their Christmas spirit is like!

It's cocktail time! Re-baked the unit and plugged it in. Still got no love so decided to button everything up and call it a night. For the hell of it, before I shut it down, I beeped it "system" and after a moment got the prompt asking if I'd like a male or female voice. Success!! Paired two phones and inputted 2 phone numbers and made two calls and all ok. Not feeling that it is permanent (how could it be) but I'll take my successes as I can. So the next project is the cracked dash. Yikes!

Baked mine about a month ago and it worked great until recently. Suddenly my phone won't stay paired. The Bluetooth connection comes and goes during conversations. Very annoying. I guess it is time for a new one.

Glad you got your working. I baked mine for 9 minutes, let it cool, and baked it once again. Did some crazy shit and then stopped working. Since replaced it and it works great...again.

PS: SOLD THE EXTRA HFL>THANKS FOR THE INQUIRES.

I have 2006 Acura MDX and have same issue. Instead of baking, I took the boards out and apply hair dryer for a few minutes. Plugged it all back and it's working. Hope it continues... Will update if anything comes up.

I had the same problem. "Booting Up" message, only found when I recently got a phone to pair with Bluetooth. No idea how long the problem existed though. That's the frustrating part. I called local Acura dealer and the service guy was aware of this issue when I mentioned the message and necessary jump starts. I unplugged the module yesterday, so fingers crossed that is what was causing my battery to die. I am still seeing the "Booting Up" message on the display even though the module is unplugged. Is this normal? Thanks

Yes it is normal for it to still display booting up even though the module is unplugged.

OK, it looks like the BT module was my problem with battery drain. I unplugged it last week, my car sat for a few days including zub-zero temps. Started right up. Thank you to those who posted solutions.

How do you know if the BT is bad vs the HFL?
