Heres what you do guys. For the car you go out and buy nice inexpensive Sony or whatever phone you want. you get a GSM phone.
Unlocked.
then go out and pay $15.00 and get a sim card from t-mobile. if you spend more than $50.00 the minutes are good for a year. Refill as necessary it is not that expensive.
Now battery life dosen't come into play here. Why? Because this phone STAYS IN THE CAR plugged into the co=cigarette lighter adapter in the stash box in the middle of the seats there is even a cable cutout for this purpose.
To review. The phone stays in the car. It is VERY cheap to operate ...no monthly's.
Now when you ARE DRIVING FORWARD YOUR REGULAR PHONE TO THE CAR phone.
when you leave the car UN forward.
The tmobile system for pay as you go works great and you get more bonus minutes as you buy more minutes. Minutes are good for a year.
If you buy the right phone put it in the car and you never have to fiddle with it again. it is like having a real car phone that stays with the car. it is also good in any kind of emergency to have a second backup phone around.

My little brother just got his TL over the weekend. We're both using sony ericsson phones (him - unbranded Z600, me - V802SE). We got both phones paired no problem, make/receive calls is all ok. Battery and signal strength shows up fine too, but... Caller-id never shows up. If we look on either phone, of course the phone shows the caller-id but it won't show up on the MID.
One thing is our service provider, Fido, has been recently bought out by Rogers, so now the phone's always displays "rogers" network instead of "fido" on the display and i think this is causing the MID to show that the phone is roaming. The roaming itself is no problem, it's just how the fido network works now... but could the roaming cause caller-id info to not be sent to the car to show up on the MID?

The only problem I had with the system was receiving incoming calls. The phone has settings for autoanswer in the car settings menu. That setting needs to be set to 10 seconds or longer or else the car hangs up on the call before you can answer. Also, even though the manual says to push the talk button to receive the call, it almost always answers itself - but you can't depend on it so its better to push the talk button when the call comes in.

I visited the local Verizon store today to buy one of the upgrade phones and they never heard of the software version. Called the company, tech support and nobody has the faintest idea where to get the software upgrade.
Called back to Hands Free link and they claim the the new version is out there somewhere...Where the frick is it????
If anybody gets any info on the upgrade, please post.

But yeah, the V802SE i have i've updated to the 2nd newest firmware (Z800i firmware R1X031) but i know for the Z600 it's very very old firmware. I purchased it when it was first release from overseas and was a hand-me-down to my brother who's never had the firmware updated either. Maybe i'll try sending it somewhere to get it updated and see if that'll fix the problem.
Cool, thanks for that info. I'll try to update the firmware asap even if it doesn't solve the problem, the phone just seems running too slow. For some reason i feel the roaming has something to do with it but hopefully am wrong. Thanks for the info/help guys
i have an unlocked kokia 6255i that i am using on verizon. the phone is unlocked and unbranded. i was able to get pair it with my TL but it does not show battery strength or signal strength. is there something else that i should do to get this info on my TL display.

I took my car to Acura today, and they said the Motorola V600 is "not" compatible with there Bluetooth. It may be worth mentioning, that I have had my phone for over 6 months and have made 1000's of calls with out a single problem.
Anyone esle have this issue?

I bought my '04 TL back in June '04, and immediately went out and bought the v600 from Cingular. I had no problems linking it up with HFL and making calls......UNTIL.......I had to receive a call. When the first call came in, I hit the answer button on the steering wheel and the call was answered and immediately dropped. Long story short........I later discovered (despite what Acura, Cingular, and Motorola tried to tell me) that you can't answer a call unless you leave the clamshell open in the car all the time. Of course there's that option you can set to NO...."Open to Answer" in the phone.....DOESN'T WORK!
Anyway, I dealt with this for many months and just left the clam shell open whenever in the car. Until I loss the ability to hear in the earpiece of the phone....totally unrelated to HFL.
By this time, I had heard horror stories about returning the phone to Cingular, and either not getting your phone back, or being given a lessor phone.......and Cingular had already discontinued selling the phone.
A month ago I noticed Cingular had a "new" return/exchange program so I decided to give it a try.......lo and behold it was a very painless process......they sent back to me a "NEWER" v600....."v600g".....and every probrem I had every had with the phone vanished.......it finally worked the way it was supposed to. Even worked with HFL without me having to leave the clamshell open.
So the fact that Acura is now saying that v600 isn't compatible with HFL is probably because they know about these problems and just don't want us calling them........they just rather say it's not compatible so they can not have to take your call........I don't blame them really.........the problem was never with HFL, but with the phone.
I hope this helps you or someone else.

Since you are in the LA area, you could've gone to Global Mobility and had them upgrade your V600 without turning it into Cingular but I guess that was the "official" way to go. The clamshell problem was one of the first issues with the V600. I like the phone though out of all the Motorola lineup, even the RAZR holds nothing to the V600. As for preferred phones, Sony Ericsson is my favorite.

Yeah, I really loved the phone when it came out. I'm a big geek/gadget head, but I was not about to just go out and drop more cash on a different phone, because it's always something with these new phones.........as all the other threads seem to show.
For me going the "official" route came down to principle. I'm the customer and Cingular and Motorola should have their combined asses kicked for putting people through this............I shouldn't have to lift a finger to make sure that the product I bought works the way it's supposed to.
In my case patience and timing paid off. Many others weren't so lucky, and were given lessor phones, or didn't get their phone back at all.
I went to my local Verizon store- Route 202 in Bridgewater, NJ- to have my software upgraded to 8700_01.40.OR for my Motorola V710. They weren't able to upgrade the software so they gave me a brand new phone. The cell phone was purchased October, 2004- it had the new camera, but lacked the new software. The new software dsiplays battery life and volume on the display of my car.

How do you pair any phone with an 03 TL???
I had an 03 and didn't have that capability.
Bluetooth no worky! Help!
So I've had my car for about 1 yr now, all over a sudden my bluetooth doesn't work. I had a SE Z600 successfully work it for abt 10 months b4 then I had a SE T616 which also worked flawlessly. Now when I try to pair the phone the search times out and no phones are found. I even tried with my buddies T610 thinking it was my phone but his was not located either - any ideas? Or will this resort to another trip to the dealer which I so much loathe?
Are the phone lists on the navi or from your phone
I have just ordered the 06 TSX which will come with bluetooth and navi. When you use the voice prompts to choose a number to call, does it come from a list on the navi or from a list from the phone?
Thanks

On the '05 TL you have to program the phone book in the car with your voice by adding numbers induvidually (stores 50 numbers tied to spoken names) or you can speak the digits you want to dial ("dial 15555551212) but there's no way to upload an address book from your phone or PDA.

I just purchased my bluetooth Motorola V710 and have connected to an ear/mic piece. I'm still waiting for my 06 TSX to arrive to connect it to the car.
I had no problems setting it up and connecting to it.
My question is:
Is there anyway of setting up a "macro" on one of the buttons so that you can just press one button to connect, instead of going through the several menu steps?
Thank you

By the way the TL brought me into the showroom. It is a terrific looking vehicle.
Thanks again for the info.
