So I picked up new 04TL w/Nav from the dealer today. As I was leaving, one of the managers heard me talking to the salesman about Verizon and bluetooth availability.
The manager told me that a good frind of his works for Verizon Wireless at corporate. He told him that Verizon was coming out with 5 new bleutooth phones. He said they either all come out in June or they will start introducing them slowly starting in June. He said not to switch to another carrier for bluetooth becuse the outlook is promissing for the near future. He said that the only thing he was sure of was that 5 phones are coming out with bluetooth.
I cannot validate this and I have no corroborative or supporting information. However, I think I'll just wait until at least the end of July and see what happens.

Okay guys, you're gonna laugh at me, but I consider cell phones to be evil. My cell phone usually stays in my car. I don't like appendages hanging off me that I wasn't born with, and when I tried to carry one they always seemed to wind up on the floor (the cellphones, not my other appendages). I'm also not too fond of ringing phones interrupting my conversation. I don't know much about them, and to this point I've just gone with whatever phone was free with my plan (currently AT&T wireless, which I'm open to changing).
I do however want my wife to be able to reach me for most of the time during my upcoming vacation (driving to Glacier National Park, and from there to the Grand Canyon). Right now when she calls, I'm fumbling around trying to: a) find the phone, and b) hold it up to my ear when talking (the earpiece thingie never worked real well). At&t has one of the most expensive rate plans on the market compared to both T-Mobile and Cingular. Since you live on the countryside, you might want to look into Cingular as they support both 850/1900 mhz like AT&T but with cheaper rates. Most providers can give you an approximation of coverage within a given area so I would ask them first before opening an account with them.
If you prefer a clamshell with either Cingular or AT&T, it is the Motorola V600. Sony Ericsson also offers the Z600 but it only supports 1900mhz and being that you're in the countryside, it might or might not give you the results you are looking for. The Motorola V600 will run quite more than $50. It'll be somewhere between 200-350 depending on who you activate with and how long your contract is. best of luck.

Thanks bro for taking the time to reply. Cell phones, plans, and the different services are as complicated as tax code. You almost need a degree in this stuff to be on top of things.
Anyway, I ended up going with Cingular through a1wireless.com (after checking their ratings online). I got a family plan with two V600s for $399 with a $200 rebate after three months. I'll get the phones on Tuesday.
I'm sure I'll have tons of questions then.

Cingular is a good way to go. I have had T-Mobile for the past 3.5 years and love them. Then again I also live in the city. The V600 is a great phone. You picked an excellent phone. Best of luck and let us know how your reception goes!

I have a Nokia 6230 and it works great. The only thing that does not show up on the screen is the bar strength and that is depending on the phone. But the compatibility is great and works great. I live in the LA area with T-mobile and the phonebook is great in the phone. This car is awesome... go bluetooth!!

The V710, apparently, doesn't send some information to the console. For example, the roam indicator, signal strength, battery, etc. The only thing I can see on my display is a cell tower...
The V710 retails for $400+. After discounts, I got mine for $149 from Verizon...

Why would you have to connect your phone each time you get in the car? There's no connection to be made once the phone is synched to the car. By the time you are about 10 ft from your car - it has already found your phone.

It's not so bad now that I made a shortcut to the temporary power-on menu in the V710. By default, the bluetooth power is off, so I think that's why. I'll try and test that when I go out later.

I have the Sony/Eric T637 and although the reception indicator shows 4 bars, the reception is not very good. The people I call can hear me fine but their voices are quite distorted. Also, I have a problem that others have...when I get in the car, the dash readout displays "phone" and I have to connect then disconnect to get it to go away. Does anyone have any thoughts on either? Thanks!

Verizon Motorola V710, Bluetooth Compatibility
I have Verizon service and am looking for a Verizon phone that is compatible with my TL's HFL.
I called tech support at Hands Free Link today and they claim the Verizion Motorola V710 (version 8700_01.3E.S2) but only this recently released software version will will pair properly with the TL's HFL.
I visited the local Verizon store today to buy one of the upgrade phones and they never heard of the software version. Called the company, tech support and nobody has the faintest idea where to get the software upgrade.
Called back to Hands Free link and they claim the the new version is out there somewhere...Where the frick is it????
If anybody gets any info on the upgrade, please post.

FYI, was in the Lloyd Center store in Portland, OR today. Saw the 710 and am not crazy about it. The fellow there was very helpful with getting one of our phones (LG VX4400s) replaced due to problems. Asked him when they might have more BT phones and he said I should check back around 12/1 when more might be available depending on production levels. I'm in no hurry so will wait and see what else comes along re: BT before taking the plunge.
