I also have 05 navi and i have grom. If youre courageous enough to take apart everything from the arm rest to the top of navi screen, it's not that hard. Grom even sends you a youtube DYI guide which is very helpful. The only issue is I would recommend having somebody that could lend you a hand because the navi unit is quite large and clunky to get it out by yourself. Not impossible, but much easier with a helping hand. You can install it yourself in about 90 minutes. I hid the main grom unit under the cupholder like that if i need to have access to it I can just pop out the cupholder.
I took the full kit minus the BT adapter. If you take full kit, you can purchase BT later on but if you're gonna be plugged in by the headset jack, i don't see the point of paying 50$ more on the BT when I already have it.
It works well, only thing is it sometimes changes mode by itself. It will switch from "iPod" to USB when i start my car in the morning, maybe once per 2 months so it's not bad.
I also recommend you keep stock BT because there is a noise and echo canceling system. With grom BT, a lot of people complain about the bad quality of the conversation because there is not cancelation.
Here is what I got, check on ebay also, sometimes you can find them for about 110$

I can't speak for the Grom, but I'm very satisfied with the USA Spec unit (mine is an older one though and I have a Belkin BT adapter via the Aux port on the USA Spec).
I have an Isimple IS32 in mine but Im very disapointed with it. Works fine but the volume is not loud for some reason. I have the dial all the way up on the unit and still have to max out radio and phone volume and it still gets drowned out at highway speeds. Id suggest going a different route to anyone looking into this...
Is that Isimple, in general? Or is there a possibility of a connection problem or some other issue? I'm also a potential customer, although i did respond to his post as if i am not.
I have the GROM-AND2 unit for Android / iPod via audio cable in my 3g TL. Currently using firmware 29 and the latest version of AAlinq. The volume IS lower and not as "full" as listening to the radio (lack of surround sound?) and now skips the first and last few seconds of songs. I suspect it's causing my NAV to reboot every so often as well. It's still more convenient than shuffling through CD's or searching for music on the radio. There's supposed to be an upgrade / fix for AAlinq within a week or two...

You guys should look into getting an audio amplifier that connects inline between your bluetooth device and your HU. My setup is the Blackberry Music Gateway (Bluetooth) with the FiiO EO6 amplifier. The BB gateway is powered via the car charger in my arm rest and have a 3.5mm jack connected from the OUT of the BB gateway to IN on the FiiO E06 and then the out from the E06 into the aux jack in the armrest. It has a rechargeable battery and has a switch with different sound options such as bass boost, mid, highs, along with volume controls. It can be plugged in continuously but my thing with it being plugged in is that you get feedback from the charger that it is annoying while listening to your music. I even bought a ground loop isolator and it didn't work. I tend to just charge it overnight and plug it in and usually lasts a couple days if you remember to shut it off since it doesn't have an auto shut off feature which blows
. I always forget to turn it off and only get a good full day of use before having to recharge it again. When that happens I plug it into the usb charger in the armrest while i commute to work and have a good charge for use for the commute home where you can fully recharge it.

Most of the questions on this thread are from pre-2007 which mean no AUX input inside the center console. I am still using a cassette adapter since it was free and it works. I have a BBMG, but never really got around to really "installing" it since I am not in my car that often anymore.
I mentioned both devices. Not sure what you're question is. Anytime you had a bluetooth device you're going to sacrifice audio quality. The only solution I found was adding a portable amplifier as I mentioned in my last post. You can find them for $20 on ebay.
OK, I have a different type of question. I have an older Dice electronics R3 adapter from around 2006. I have the wires running from the back of my radio through the console to the R3 module under my seat.
My question is, does anybody know if any of these units use the same harness so I could simply swap the module rather than having to tear apart the radio and console again?

I have isimple ishd651. I only use it with nexus installed in dasH now but Bluetooth is not quiet for me on android or my iPhone. Same volume As everything else. Search on here, with iisimple at least you can install without removing anything, there are threads detailing
How does the USA Spec work in relation to HFL? My HFL died so I'm not sure if I'd need to replace it first.
USA Spec is an iPod/ Aux interface only, so when the HFL is active, the music temporarily cuts out, as it should. To use the interface for your phone, you'd need a BT device to go via AUX. The Grom unit has a BT adapter with the interface, so you could forego fixing the HFL and still have the BT phone functionality as well as streaming audio. Personally, I'd get a new HFL board and fix it in under 10 minutes.
Thanks, the conclusion I keep coming back to is replacing HFL. If for no other reason than convenience and not wanting my battery to drain in the future.
I'll keep researching other threads for a bluetooth audio solution I like. I have a Lifeproof case on my iPhone and hate using the headphone adapter for audio.

So far I'm very happy with it. The BMG sits in the console along with a lighter adapter to supply power via USB. It doesn't come with one so you should plan to buy one if needed. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5. I get in the car and it pairs immediately with the HFL and the Blackberry. For music I just launch my app on the phone and select AUX on the sound system. Incoming and outgoing calls are handled with the HFL controls on the wheel. Other than having to use the phone controls directly to manage music choices (vs. using those built into the car) I have no complaints. And for the price, $16 shipped, I figure I can use this for as long as I want until I discover a better solution.
Good luck! striderx
i have the g-cord bluetooth receiver and paid $15. cheaper than all other solutions. its just a simple bluetooth receiver that plugs into the 3.5mm jack, just like the overpriced isimple.
only con i would say is that you have to turn it on everytime you get in the car.

BLUF: If I were to buy another Bluetooth dongle I would get one of the copycats that are half the price. I spent the 20 bucks for the G-Cord because I actually wanted a quality product, turns out it isn't one. I'm just waiting for the Garmin iTrip to drop in price.
