Blew my sub out last week

I blew my sub out last week and am looking to get a new one

I was rocking a Jack Hammer MTX Audio 12” with a 600 watt MTX Thunder Amp

I want to upgrade to a better subwoofer and from what I have heard JL is the way to go. I like loud bass and I want to be able to make the car next to me feel it . I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to narrowing that down. Also how do I know if the Amp and new sub will match up or if I need to upgrade the Amp as well?
My friend sent me this link and said that it would be good for me, http://cgi.ebay.com/JL-AUDIO-HO112R-...2%7C240%3A1318 , any feedback?

What is the difference between powered and unpowered?

Thank you for any comments

Well what's the best thing I can do with that. I am leaning towards the JL from what friends have said, but I do not know which one to get. I am looking for one that is already in the box and i can hook up to my existing amp.

He'll really appreciate it when he's our age and can't hear any frequencies below 80Hz

you want to piss off the guy next to you? what's the point, other than looking like an asshat?

Get something that sounds the way you like it. If it happens to shake the car next to you, that's called a side-effect. But when that's your main goal...

Really? Is the 3GTL the new Integra?

^Hell no Integra NO CHALLENGE!!!!!!!! Thats the reason why I got a ten because I wanted enough bass for inside the car but to barely disturb the people around me.

HMMMMM.

Step One.
remove the back seat.... yes remove it.
Step Two.
Build a WALL.
Step Three.
INSTALL as many subs as the space will allow. the bigger they are the better, the more you will be able to shake the car next to you.
Step Four.
Upgrade electrical system. and add as many batteries as you can afford.
Step Five.
Buy the biggest amps that you can afford.
One per sub.
if you really have cash$$$$$$
then two per sub.
Or one for each coil. called "strapping"

with the above steps not will you only shake the car that will be next to you but probably half the block.

let us know once you are done and do post pics I would love to see that done in a TL....

I must be missing something over here. Please explain how "Enclosure Type: Chamber-coupled, slot-ported, rear-firing design" is sealed?

JL will give you some very clean clear bass, I personally love it. But how loud were you planning to go? Because you could get a w7 which will upset my stomach in certian circumstances or you can go w6 which is a pretty tasteful amount of bass in my opinion. I mean any smaller than that is just settling for less.

gah was trying to edit, sorry for double post..
And you also have to consider the size of the woofer, personally I have a couple 10 inch woofers which work just fine. And variable is the box; Sealed vs. High Output(HO). HO is definately the way to go if you are looking for sound ground shaking bass. And as for the amp, you will probably need to upgrade; Alpine and Pioneer have some pretty high quality amps for the money you are prob looking for around 700-1000 watt RMS.

If you are looking for the best possible setup my reccomendation would be a 12in W7 in a HO box. And your neighbors wont be too pleased when you ride down the block if thats what you are looking for.

Well said

I will add my if you are going to replace or get another amplifier, make sure that it does put out the wattage per your driver ohm's requirements.

meaning if you will get a driver say, 1000 watt @ 4ohm. do not get an amp that will do.
250 watt's @ 4ohm,
500 watt's @ 2ohm
1000 watt's @ 1 ohm.

if you do, then the driver is under powered.

not that there will not be enought power to listen to it, but if you will ever want to crank it.... more then likely the amp will be overdriven and that = into clipping. and that = into potentially blowing another sub.

hope that makes some sence.

a proper designed enclosure, for the choosen driver. will give you plenty of bass that you are looking for. A single 10, in proper eclosure will out perform most of 2 12"'s in unproper enclosure.

hope that makes some sence....

good luck on your venture for ultra low sub bass....
