Blackberry 8700c

Has anyone tried this BlackBerry with HFL yet? Given that all the recent BlackBerries work with HFL flawlessly, I don't expect a problem. But it would be nice to know that someone is already using the device with TL.

Thanks.

Can you tell me how you like it in general (outside of the TL)? Is the phone signal reception good? Is the sound quality Ok? Is the form-factor Ok? I would appreciate any feedback.

I'm almost certainly going to get it for e-mail service, but I'm not sure whether I should retain a separate cell phone (I have Motorola V551 which I like a lot) or use 8700c for both data and voice. Thanks.

I use the 8700C for work with Data(BES) and Cell service. I was using a 7280 BB before the 8700. The 8700 is FAR better in every way. Screen is a much higher resolution and brighter. Much easier to read. Internet is 10 times faster with EDGE technology. You can actually browse the internet with this thing. Almost impossible with the 7280. It would take almost 15 mintues to open the CNN homepage with my 7280. It opens in 10-15 seconds with the 8700. The SEND and END buttons on the front of the unit are wonderful. I hated having to click the wheel to make and receive calls. Speakerphone is nice. You can actually hear the phone ring with Polytone ring tones. I could never hear my 7280 when it was in my pocket. Pairs to the TL perfect. I love my 8700C but it's not cheap at $300. Service is fine with Cingular (not as good as Verizon around Detroit) but I assume it's going to depend on where you live.

Unhappy

I upgraded to the Blackberry 8700c via Cingular 2 days ago from the Blackberry 7290. The 7290 worked flawlessly. The 8700 pairs fine, but connects/disconnects every few seconds. Can't get it to stay connected no matter what I do.

Am open to any ideas. Can't switch back or to another phone - company provides it.

I believe there is some way to "reset" (reboot) HFL. This may be what the doctor ordered. I would definitelly take the car to a dealership, if this continued...

Thumbs up I love it!

Well, I've had my 8700c for a week now and I'm absolutelly blown away! It's a great device with some really amazing capabilities. As far as TL integration goes, it was fast and easy and the sound quality is great. I get signal strength and battery meter displayed on TL screen. I highly recommend this device to anyone.

Absolutely perfect for me. Way better BT connection than Treo 650. MID displays signal, battery, and caller ID (number only). Outside of the car I use a Moto H700 headset. When I get into the TL, I just close the mic boom on the headset, and the TL instantly pairs with the phone. When I leave the car...I just open the mic boom on the headset and instantly repair with the headset. Can't get much better! Oh, the 8700 does all the other stuff just great.

Here are the instructions from www.handsfreelink.com (8700 procedure is the same):

Blackberry 7290 Pairing Instructions:

IMPORTANT: You must press and release the HandsFreeLink talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the beep before you speak. This step is required before all spoken commands.

Power on the phone and ensure Bluetooth® is ON. Please refer to your phone's user guide for steps to turn on Bluetooth.

Press and release the Talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the "beep" before you speak. Repeat this step before all spoken commands.

Say "phone setup"

Say "pair"

Say any 4 digit PIN code for pairing. Remember it as you will need to enter it into your phone later. HandsFreeLink will now instruct you to begin pairing process in the phone.

On the Blackberry select OPTIONS

Select Bluetooth

Press Scroll Wheel

Select ADD DEVICE

Select device from list

Enter 4 digit PIN code from earlier step

After pairing is complete, press Scroll Wheel

Select DEVICE PROPERTIES

Select TRUSTED and press Scroll Wheel

Select CHANGE OPTION

Select YES

Press Escape key

Select SAVE
