Best place to mount radar detector?

I have a Beltronics Vector 965. I read that higher up is best for radar, and lower is best for laser. I'm getting around to direct-wiring mine, and wondering where to place it.

Right now I have it sitting on the dash, with the windshield holder preventing it from moving around.

Where do you guys/girls have yours mounted?

I had my detector sort hidden underneath the mirror, I don't think the lower it is, its better for laser. Your best bet is to run the cable from the fusebox, up the pillar, though the headliner to the mirror.

Mine is mounted just to the left of the rearview mirror and level with the bottom of the mirror.

Also, if you get a Laser alert, you have already been hit with laser.

You should mount in the center of the windshield just under the rearview mirror.

Get a 9500ci off ebay. It's way better and has laser deflectors.

My Escort 8500 x50 is mounted just to the left of the rearview mirror and powered with a DIY 'invisicord' using the mirror's power. Power line is run into the overhead console and tapped into the mirror power there.

The front of the detector is just below the extra tint on the windshield. Laser is not very common in Tampa, but I have received one hit since I did the hardwire. I'm 99.9999% sure this was a hit from the front - I really doubt a laser hit from the rear would reach the rear detector. Supposedly window tint blocks laser energy (from reaching a detector). I don't worry about laser hits.

Thanks guys! I'm going with this approach (left of mirror to mirror power).

Yeah I did what paz840 did using an invisicord. Do a forum search, there a plug up in the sunroof panel that you can push the invisicord into, mine is powered by the key.

I'll do a search and see if I can find the thread.

I have my V1 to the right of my rear-view mirror about level with it height wise.

V1's instructions say that mounting higher on your windsheild is best, but that may be just for the Valentine.

Like people have said about Laser. If you get an alert, you're already toast.

Your best bet is to go with a laser jammer. The Blinder Jammer (M25 or M45) is unbelievable. It completely sucks up all the laser being shot at your car.

A good buddy of mine has this set-up in his 08 z06 and we were cruising I-10 going about 115 when we ran into a cop trying to get a bead on us with a laser gun. He looked confused when we passed him. LOL
