base to nav sub display

hey all,

i am brand new to this site. i am going to put in an aftermarket kenwood navi dvd etc. i was wondering if it is possible to use the navi clock instead of the non navi clock so i dont have to keep the hvac display. i want to put the kenwood where the hvac/radio display is and fab a piece where the old radio is. but i want the display where the clock is so i dont have to keep the old display in order to view my hvac. does the same wire harness fit both or will i have to re wire my old harness? thanks guys!!

the navi sub-display is dependent on the whole navi system, if you wanted it there you would essentially need to install a whole navi system that the factory puts in. The easiest thing to do is just leave it there and replace just the radio.

ahh i see.. well my uncle has a car shop.. they will most likely do the install.. so they can custom fab my new dash. their experience out weighs mine. but they want to put they old radio/hvac display where the radio is and put the new touch screen where the old display was. do you think that would look alright. just lookin for opinion.

You could go about this a few ways:

Move the HVAC screen display to where the two compartments were:

Or you could take out the radio, move the HVAC screen there and place the new touch-screen where the display was

OR you could go all out crazy, move the HVAC display to the bottom, remove the factory radio and put compartments there to hold a cd player (maybe even a mac mini for a carpc) and put your new touch-screen up top.

Wiring up the Navi Sub Display is possible. One member has done it here.. See my thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=747456&page=2

VMTSquad is now trying to do the same thing with his carpc setup. He has links in my thread to how the ONE member we know of that has done it, did it. You will need almost ALL the OEM factory Navi components to get that little sub display to work (just like what csmeance said).. Just have them do some research first because it will cost ou upwards of 500-1000, to ge tthat little subdisplay to work correctly..

What set up did you have navi or non-navi? Is that the acura Nav unit and the non-navi acura stereo?

I have the non-navi, I'd like to install a dvd/navi/audio/etc touch screen. But I've been reading its nav conversion or there is one thread floating around where the guy installed it in the cubbies. If I could move my stock non-navi stereo to where you have it and install a touchscreen navi that would be awesome.
