Backup sensors or camera

I have no problem parallel parking, but for the other half....well. But I must admit, you can't see your rear bumper on your side mirrors, due to rear bumper turns inward/narrows.
If you have no Navi, which you prefer or you think is better:
1) Backup sensors
2) Rear camera

from what i have heard the backup sensors tell you more than the camera. the camera does not have a wide enough view to see out to the sides, only right behind you, but the sensors wrap around the bumper allowing you to "see" off to the sides as well.

i dont really like the look of the sensors though, but i dont need them here in michigan so i would probably never consider them.

yea the sensors are all around the front and back of the bumper so it gives you more coverage. The camera is on top of the license plate which is good for making sure there is nothing behind you such as kids or garbage cans, etc. If I remember correctly tho, the camera comes with the navigation system so I don't think you can get one unless it has navi installed.

I regret not getting the Navi model, using this as an excuse to convince the other half (wife) to get a aftermarket Navi w/rear camera....

Seriously no, this is my son's & wife's ride, wife has concerns of not able to see the bumper....

My ride is a 23 year old well maintained mercedes, which I can't wait to get a collector's plate for in two more years.

I have the camera, it's cool, but I try to park the old fashioned way.
You don't want to forget how to park! :cough: Lexus.

I like the back up sensors too, I wish I had both.

If you have both, you'll going be enjoying parking more than driving.... :gheywave:

Have the rear camera installed....BUT rather disappointed with it.
Yes, I can see the rear very clearly, BUT...you can't really judge the distance. I guess the camera does not have the depth perception like our eye does. So, gonna have it remounted & pointed down more vertically.

OBJECTS IN CAMERA ARE MUCH CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!!!
The peripheral is not very wide, but it's good enough if you have to get into a tight space.

That's just my point, you'll have a hard time getting into a tight space.
When I back into a spot, when I thought I almost touched the front bumper of the other car...I got out to have a look, there WAS still "2 FEET" between our bumpers.

If it's a really tight spot, you'll look really silly

mb190, I don't have that problem with my camera...and I park/back-up into a wall, when I see the wall and bumper meet, I'm like 2-3 inches away.

But I do agree with the camera is not that good. In my infinity it actually showed me the distance in feet. And when it rained or got wet, it didn't show me a freaken blur as Acura does.

Oh well, it's better than nothing, the only problem is that I'm getting too use to it.

I had the sensors installed when I bought my car, and while I agree that they are not at all stylish, the service that they provide is great. I had to park in DC in those underground parking lots where the space is really tight and you have to park backwards. The sensors allowed me to leave 3 inches of space between the bumper and the wall, also they work in any kind of weather condition, day or night.
I'm driving a loaner now while my car is in service (recall) and it came with the back up camera, I think it is great to see if something is behind you. But to park, because of the wide angle of the lens, the camera doesn't give you a good idea of the space that you really have between your car and the car behind you.

That is EXACTLY right!!
Hope after remounting it more vertically will solve it...

But is it even possible to have the camera without a navi?

How much does each cost, sensors and camera?

Sensors

my 2 cents:

I have the Camera in mine since I have the navi, BUT.......

I have both in my new avalanche. The camera is nice, but the sensors provide a better all around protection as it covers a wider area than the camera (it even covers the sides of the rear bumper.)

I think the camera and sensors are great tools, but I try not to rely on them too much.
You should turn around sometimes to eliminate the blind spots.
