Audio in a 2007 TL-help needed
Just was wondering if any of you guys can reccomend a good car audio shop around the Kansas City Missouri area? Was looking to replace all spekers with Alpine type R's and put a sub and amps in. By the way, what size speakers are in the rear of a 2007 acura tl? I know they are 6.5's up front, but I have heard they are both 6.5's or 6X9's Someone help clear this up. Finally any of you guys replace you whole sound system how much did if run you guys if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks Guys

yeah I thought about that as well, but would say like an Alpine type R speaker be a little better than whats in there now? I would think so, also can are stock speakers be hooked up to a 4-channel amp or would that be too much power going to the stock speakers?

from my recent experience with my 06 TL (I kept the factory head unit, replaced all speakers, added subs and amps and a Rockford 3Sixty processor) and if you decide to keep the factory head unit, MAKE SURE they have experience with head units that have ultra-low voltage output!!! The factory unit in mine (yours is probably the same?) has such a low turn-on output that it does not turn the 3Sixty on and the car does not have a remote turn-on wire like old-school head units. My system is "hot" as soon as the key is turned, even if the radio is off. You'll see a lot of posts on here about trying to tie into a fuse or input line that allows for the aftermarket stuff to not be "hot" all the time. Good luck!

I am in KC if you ever want some help.
I would keep the stocks rather than upgrade to Type R speakers - they juice would not be worth the squeeze to me.
Speaker sizes:
3.5" center - single speaker
6.5 components up front - 6.5 midbass and about a 1" tweeter
6.5 rear - single speaker
8" sub

Well I already have all the amp wiring as well as the sub, and two amps so I would just be looking at speakers if I decide to go that route and install, but I was wanting a custome sub enclosure. The one that fists into the corner of the trunk. Looks sweet and like it belongs there anyone have any pics of that?

I have one in each of my TLs. They are about $350 or so online new. They usually take 12" subs, but I have seen one for a 10. A shop can make you a custom one, or you can buy them online.
Here is a pic of the one in my 2006. The 2004 looks the same except the dust cover logo is red instead of white. Forgive the mess in my wife's car - we use the trunks.
What kind of sub and amp do you have?

All Alpine stuff. Have a 10" Alpine Type R wanting to put that into that enclosure. Along a V-12 Powered Alpine Amp. Did you make that or did you buy it? Does it rattle the crap out of the trunk or is it not that bad?

I bought both of mine. I put 4 screws into the license plate, took out the trunk counterweight and fixed the standard deck rattles and it does not rattle the crap out of the trunk even beyond normal listening levels. I put deadener in the 2004 and I probably would not deaden the trunk again - did not gain that much.
IMO the Image Dynamics CTX65CS are about the same price (maybe a bit more) as Type R comps and they are significantly better - for your consideration.
Which V12s do you have? 75-100W to the fronts and 300-500 for a sub would be a nice start in a TL.

I have never used a Type R - I have no firsthand experience.
You can use them sealed - won't hurt them physically... the newer ones, at least. If you were happy with yours sealed, then go for it. Did you use is sealed or ported in your RSX? SPL subs are usually very peaky sounding in sealed enclosures.
The factory speakers are supposedly Bose.

I got mine from Audio Integrations:
http://www.audiointegrations.net/cat...75/8253904.htm
There is a member on here that makes them. You can search for "uncald4".
There is a 10" one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custo...fAudioQ5fVideo
You could use a 12" enclosure putting a 12" to 10" ring on the front.
I have a iSimple. Both units are about the same. Both use the factory controls and take a while to get used to. Neither are intuitive. There are tons of threads on them. Be cautious of reviews of either from new users - many people are not happy when they first get them becuase they take a while to learn. They are not like using an iPod or some Apple device that you can master in 2 minutes.

Do you think my 10" alpine Type R will fit in this enclosure? would it still sound good? I had it in a ported box in my RSX what would be the diff in enclosures. This would be powered by a Alpine V12-500w amp. where did you mount your amp at?
#19
I have no idea about the sound.
I fabricated metal brackets and I mounted my amps through the factory side molding to the metal. It is not as slick as a lot of setup, but I am a function over form kind of guy. I wanted to keep the rear seat and rear deck as open as possible to let as much sound into the car as possible.

EGGY, what is with the non-typr r in that box? Here is what he said about it being in that box: A sealed box has a very broad frequency response and it's performance is very equal across it's range. Because of this it can reproduce lower bass notes and way more boom than a ported box. A sealed box is best for rap and R&B music because the bass notes are more emphasized in the lower frequency range. I am fine with this????

Sealed Box = SQ
Ported (35-45hz) = SPL
Ported (25-32hz) = SQ low end extension
Subs are made for a specific purpose and when you put in SPL-oriented sub into an sealed (SQ) enclosure, you will not yield the full potential, and vise versa with a different sub. Ported box will give you better low end and less cone movement in the frequency range, BUT will give you a time-delay type thing. Here's a good read:

I highly recommend Travis; you should also listen to his advice on cost effective upgrade solutions.

Hey guys was wondering, not the best at this audio stuff. Do you guys feel that a custom car audio shop or a Best Buy should do an install with sub's and amps and components? I have heard both places are decents depending on what installer you get, but just wanted to know who would have more knowledge (and less likely to mess something up) Also, what would the price diff be for labor? Should one be cheaper than the other?
Thanks
Thanks

You'll just have to call and get a quote for each specific place. If you having to get multiple things installed then they might cut you a deal at the smaller shops, not at a big box store like Best Buy.
