Exclamation ATTENTION - XM Refunds!

Some of you may have noticed the poor XM reception over the past couple of days. XM is now offering a refund for 2 days' worth of fees if subscribers call their listener care number. Here's a story which provides some of the details:

I tend to agree...frankly, I'd prefer they just extend my expiration date on the back-end by two days and call it good.

TWO DAYS OF BAD RECEPTION?!?!?!? I gotta say that since I bought my 05 TL (3 weeks ago), I am anything but impressed with XM radio. There is this sharp "ssssk" sound whenever anybody makes an "S" or "TH" noise. I believe my friend called it sybalence (sp?)or something. It's especially nasty when the DJ talks with no music to help drown it out. It gets so bad at times that I find myself switching over to FM. I've checked all other audio modes on the car and it's definitely XM only...

My wife has an external Sirius unit on the AUX Line-in for her Element, and it sounds absolutely great. I dont' know if XM uses lower bandwidth or what, but I can say that they really need to address this because quality audio systems like the TL really exaggerate these kinds of problems...

Wow, I never knew this side about XM? I'm really close to subscribing with them...but now that I hear all these horror stories, I'm a bit worried. I never got a chance to use the trial version so I haven't experienced the problems you guys are mentioning, but I'm getting a bit tired of having to make new CD, and I really, really hate FM.

I signed up for a five-year plan when XM raised the rates a few years ago. By my math, I'm entitled to a 57¢ refund. Not worth the trouble. I've probably wasted more than 57¢ worth of time typing this post! It would make more sense for them just to extend all subscriptions by two days....even if it means giving something away to people who didn't suffer reception problems, it's got to be easier and cheaper than paying someone to process refund requests (and paying for all the toll-free calls to get refunds).

Try it out if you get a chance- it's worth it.

This recent satellite problem has been the only XM problem I've had. Some other posters have issues with XM's compression, but that apparently occurs only on certain channels. The channels I use are crisp and clear (dance, jazz) with better range than FM.
Call to see if you can activate the 3-month trial to evaluate XM; traffic channels in SoCal alone justify the subscription cost for me.
I hate FM too, and XM has some good commercial-free channels that make carrying other media pretty redundant for me.

Oh, and no, I won't be seeking my 57 cent refund either.
