Apple CarPlay with Stock Navi Screen

Hi All,

Below is a link to video I made of a NavTool product I purchased to get Apple CarPlay on navi screen. Overall I am very impressed with the unit. Audio quality is great. The microphone and Siri requests are clear. This is actually something I use on every drive!

Let me know if you guys have questions about the install

Are you saying the older TL touch screen technology will not work and the only interface is thru the remote control?

Thats correct. You have to use the remote. I believe the touch screen technology on the third gen TL is an older type of touch screen and can’t be used (capacitive vs resistant touch screen)

like the connectivity, but the remote interface would be a deal breaker for me.

You know, to be honest, I thought the remote would be annoying but it's really not. CarPlay is intended to reduce driving distraction so I most functions with voice via siri. Plus if I do have to interact with the device I don't have to take my hand off the wheel. It's just like having steering wheel controls.

Hey All,

Just an update as we are going through winter here in the Midwest:

This unit performed excellently even in below zero (Fahrenheit) temps! I'm always nervous about aftermarket parts in extreme temps but no issues here, unit always turns on and works fine! Below again is my walkthrough and install video I made

Thanks for the info. Just curious, did you cross shop any alternatives? I like the system but the price is slightly steep

Anyone know if there's a cheaper alternative to this unit, that doesn't require a remote?

I literally just bought an aftermarket pioneer head unit with apple car play. The sound is so much better with eq, I bought the harness kit from mobilemaxcaraudio. Yes you lose the center channel but you don't notice a difference. My HFL was toast anyways so it was nice to be able to use the Head unit for that. Just do not think this unit is worth it. Best part was after installing my headunit, my navi screen died... WIN WIN.
