Anyone know what this Nav symbol is?
This set of "circle" symbols appears in different places on my Nav screen (see yellow rectangle), and I can't figure out what they're supposed to represent.
There are some fairly close to where I live and I actually drove out one day to see what they signified ... there was nothing there but some vacant pasture land. I wondered at one point if it was supposed to signify an old abandoned cemetery or something (since they could maybe be headstone icons or something), but I don't think so. The manual doesn't appear to address them either.
Anyone seen these? Do you know what they represent? My wife says it has something to do with space aliens, but I somehow doubt that.

I forget the exact term, but it's something like 'off road tracking'.
Basically means you travelled either off-road or on a road that isn't mapped to a known street in the navigation system. Kind of like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs where you've been.
There's an option in the Navi to clear them if they really bother you.

they are called "Bread Crumbs" and they do exactly what bmc said. They basically appear in areas where you may drive a lot that is not mapped. Big mall parking lots is a good example, as well as new roads that are not on your version of the nav disc.
Nothing to worry about, but if they really bother you, it is in the setup screen somewhere to erase them and turn them off as well so they dont come back.

It's actually based on the idea of Hansel and Gretel leaving a trail of breadcrumbs behind them when they went into the woods (off the known path).
A pretty handy feature especially as it seems to remember these breadcrumbs. I revisited Panama City recently and my 'breadcrumbs' from December were still on my nav system when I went back into a certain neighborhood there.

After you have traveled approximately 1/2 mile away on a mapped road (you should get "Not on a digitized road" at the bottom of the screen) the Navi will display a series of white dots. Tracking continues for 150 miles. The dots at the beginning of the trail will start to disappearing when you exceed that limit. When you reach a mapped road, displaying dots is terminated.
To clear existing dots, turn this feature off on Screen 2 of the Setup menu. Look for Track Offroad Position. Then go back to Screen 1 and back to Screen 2 and enable.

Duh. That's got to be it. I really didn't remember going to some of those places where the breadcrumbs show, so I didn't make the connection.
The place I mentioned before which was a vacant field actually wasn't totally vacant ... they were getting ready to develop it and build homes and there were some streets already in. I guess maybe we drove out there to look at the area or something (?)
Or maybe it IS space aliens after all.
(Thanks, guys.)
