Any Use to Syncing Macbook?
Any Use to Syncing Macbook?
Just took delivery of my new black on black Type S yesterday and have been reading all of the hands free link posts here...got the blackberry 8800 working great, obviously no phone book transfer, however. Before I just pickup a sony on ebay to temporarily use for transfering, has anyone played around at all with a macbook/powerbook sync and trying to transfer numbers that way? I know that Apple has a pretty complete bluetooth implementation but assume that the required profiles aren't supported...
just a thought - it certainly is frustrating that so few phones are supported for this feature.

It Works
I can't believe that noone else has discussed or discovered this......
First, I paired my bluetooth macbook with the TL. No problems.
Then, open OS X's Address Book and select the contact you wish to export to the car's hand-free system.
I'm not in the car, so I forget the exact voice command, but in the phone setup menu it was something like 'import contact' - it's the same standard command used to export a number from a connected phone.
Next, In the Address Book (OS X) select card / send this card...select the bluetooth profile for the car and Bam! It transfers.
Multiple numbers are supported and you will then be prompted to assign the desired voicenames. That's one thing that bothers me - if you say 'Joe Smith Mobile' and then 'Joe Smith Home' - it frequently comes back with the line, "Joe Smith Home may be confused with Joe Smith Mobile," and it refuses to program. Minor annoyance but this is much easier than entering all of the numbers manually.
NEXT, I was somewhat amazed today that my cingular Blackberry 8800 actually allowed me to use the 'import phonebook' feature. It didn't work yesterday (and I know blackberry's typically aren't supported) but for some reason it worked today. 71 contacts were imported, but I did receive a message that the file size was too large and there was an error. Nonetheless, I am able to browse the address book on the navi screen - the contact are all there. HOWEVER, trying to dial a contact or save it in the hands free does NOT work. There does seem to have been an error in the transmission. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this phone, or the e815 (verizon but bluetooth enabled per hacks). I'll report back sometime soon my experience with the e815; I assume it won't work.
So, good news today. Maybe someone else can have a similar experience. Now I've got to go see about hacking my navi nag screen...

I can say without a doubt, however, that the Macbook sync method that I listed the other day, absolutely does work and I was able to quickly transfer all of my contacts that way in under 15 minutes. Still, I hope they expand support to more phones one of these days...
