Alt. Rockers Foo Fighters Use Acura TL as Mobile Studio

from www.hondanews.com, amusing but does seem more like a self-promotion PR

Torrance, Calif. 06/06/2005 -- The groundbreaking audio system in the Acura TL served as a mobile studio for platinum selling rockers, Foo Fighters. While recording and mixing their latest album, "In Your Honor" in 5.1 surround sound, the band found themselves without the DVD-Audio capabilities to listen to the cuts. One of the band's mix engineers Elliot Scheiner, who collaborated with Acura on the TL audio system, offered up an Acura TL. The TL's DVD-Audio system provides separate dedicated channels for center, left front, right front, left surround, right surround and subwoofer channels. These are the same six, individual, discrete channels recording engineers use to create multi-channel mixes in the studio.
"The TL provided the band with the perfect environment to listen to their new album in complete surround sound," said Scheiner, "They literally sat in the car for hours listening to 'In Your Honor' right outside their recording studio. They were blown away by the sound quality and had a hard time parting with the car."

With the TL parked outside their Los Angeles- based studio, the Foo Fighters listened to the final surround sound mix in the comfort of the performance luxury sedan.

"We were totally psyched about the TL," said Dave Grohl, lead singer. "This car rocks - like our new album."

The Foo Fighters two-disc album will hit stores on June 14th with a tour to follow.

It's too bad DVD-A is going the way of the dinosaur. I barely use this feature of the car because I listen to satellite radio 95% of the time.

All the same, it's great PR for the TL. Good find!

I dunno about it going the way of the dinosaur. It may go on hold until wireless surround sound home systems come out, etc. Eventually(like within 50 years) all cars will probably offer some form of DVD-A.

no, it's only going to be Dual Disc

basically Disc 1(rock disc) is going to be advanced stereo
Disc 2(acoustic disc) is going to be in 5.1 surround.

PR is PR!!! And this is good stuff!!! Especially us.....even though it might be on dualdisc, my guess is one side will be cd, and the other DVD-A if Elliot is involved, and they played it in the TL. From all the new releases being done on Dual disc, I'm guessing the DVD-A format is just transferring it's life to the dual disc rather than die out. True, the DVD-A format by itself may become less abundant, but dual disc with DVD-A will be the format of choice, and that bodes well for us TL owners, and audiophile enthusiasts.

I personally like the DualDisc format as long as the 5.1 mix is DVD-A. These discs are typically no more expensive than the regular CD versions and it allows you to play the thing pretty much anywhere. I still have quite a few CD players that don't play DVD-A and the DualDisc prevents me from having to buy 2 copies of the same album. I know some people complain about the DualDisc because it is easily scratched (due to thickness of disc) and because of the absence of artwork on the disc itself, but for what you get for $14, I think it's well worth it.

i just went and bought the album in dual disc

i was correct before
disc 1 is only in regular stereo, the car can not read the dvd side
disc 2 is in regular stereo too, but the car does read the dvd side, so it shows as a DVD-A and is in 5.1 surround

i wish the 1st disc was in 5.1(DVD-A)

Yup.

The Acoustic disc is a CD/DVD-A. The rock disc is a CD/DVD-V.
