Alpine PDX1.1000 goes into protection.
Ok so I got an Alpine PDX 1.1000 and an Alpine Type X 12" sub, 4ohms
The amp is stable to 2ohms and I got the jumper settings on my sub to deliever the 2ohms.
I have it connect using navone LOC.
My gains arent turned up past the 0 position...however if I turn up the gain any more than that the amp will go into protection if I have a song that hits any deep bass tones...
I called Alpine and they said one of my coils can be messed so I measured the impedance and it was reading 3.8-9 ohms at each coil and once wired a 2ohm load was being put to the amp.
Any idea, I've heard some people say it could be my ground, I've heard adding a capacitor my help because what can be happing is that my charging system cant keep up with the the power drawn by the sub hitting the deep tones and in turn causing the amp to go into protection...
I also heard it can be bad RCA's that can cause an amp to go into protection.
Any ideas anyone?
another quick thing, I dont know if this is normal but, I measured the load when the sub was actually playing and the load at the amp would drop below 2 ohms when the bass would hit, is that normal???
oh yeah, as far as my wiring...Im running 4 gauge power and ground, and I have 0/1 gauge at the battery to chassis ground

It sounds like the amp is being over-driven. Could be something with your LOC bu tyou said the load changes when the deep bass hits? The load should be constant with only the voltage or current changing.

it will cut out regardless of the temperature...if I went out there right now and turned up loud it will cut out. Thing is sometimes it cuts out within minutes or like 20-30 minutes later...
I'm going to sand down my grounding point really good, and see if there's a change.
As far as the load changing, Im gonna make sure and measure it again, and make sure Im measuring right...
thanks for the help so far guys...in the mean time I installed the aspec front lip today

yup the ground and power are proper...I just finished really getting rid of all the paint at my grounding point for my amp, unfortunately I didnt have the change to really crank up the system because its a bit late right now.
I'll see how things go on the way to work tomorrow...
as for the fuses...my amp has 4 25 amp fuses, they're all good. I have a 100amp anl fuse at the battery and thats good too.
Im really hoping it was the ground

from what i know on that AMP is that it delivers 1000 watts at either 2ohm load or 4ohm load. And since ur sub is a 4ohm u should set ur amp to 4ohm and not 2. If you are using a loc, the gains on it might be to high. i would try lowering them a little and then bring the gain on the amp to match the 1000 watss or less. U are probably clipping the amp it overheats and cuts out.

^^What can I tell Acura? All my other functions are completely normal, car starts, etc. I don't think they are going to replace a battery that won't power up my aftermarket system. My battery metered at 12.73 vollts, but no voltage was going to my amps.

So I figured it out...my amp has a switch that toggles between to voltage input settings 0.1-1V and 1.1V-8 or 9v...
I had it set to 1.1-8v, I switched over to 0.1-1, adjusted the gain and havent had any problems and the sub is hitting REALLY hard, and for long periods of time...so we're good
thanks everybody for all the help and ideas...

hey just so you know your subs reading should not be jumping from 3.8 to 9 ohms
and wuiwhui85 take a mulitmeter and test the ohm load on from the speaker out put on the amp and make sure that your speakers presents a proper ohm load on the amp.
