to all you S700i owners
Hey I have the S700i and have been using it for about a month and I just wanted to point out a couple things that i have been having.
When i first put in the sim card, it said i was using Cingular Wireless, when infact i was using Tmobile. This was more of a discovery then a problem since, i noticed that on my previous T68i, that when it was paired, all throughout cali, it said i was roaming, eventhough my phone said Tmobile.
My car paired fine with my new phone, and everything displayed fine. The whole system is just buggier then with my t68i, where if someone tried to call me, and i pressed the accept button, the phone would imediatly answer, but it wouldnt transfer the call to the car for another 5 seconds. Also if i have a dropped call, the car gets really pissed off at me, and i cant make another call unless i restart the engine.
Reception wise, its alot better then my old t68i, however, there are times when my GPRS just goes blank saying that its not in the area, and when i go onto the internet it suddenly pops up. Now i dont know if this relates to the problem where if i am in the car, and all of a sudden all the indicators drop except for the phone, and its in a spot where i have never lost reception before.
is there a new firmware out there that could potentialy fix a couple of these problems? They are little problems, but they happen enough where it almost makes me wish i had gotten my old T610, or even another t68i.
Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post

Sorry to hear these troublesome issues.
Btw, does your MID display battery, Signal, phone icon, etc? Thanks.
To check your firmware, you could try this from the main screen... by joystick, "right star left left star left star, then selec the first menu twice" (provided by mobilezen)

Neogeek,
Does it say Cingular no matter where you are? With Tmobile, this isn't a problem, because its just using a different alpha tag assignment from the network.. and since Tmobile doens't have roaming, except for the areas where you dont have free nights and weekends, its not making a difference if its recieivng Cingulars tag. But that would be really wierd if you are getting a cingular tag in the same spot where you used to be getting tmobile tags.
On most SE's you just have to hold down the volume button(s) to check your firmware version.

Elevate: No, i am in hartford right now and it says Tmobile, so it says cingular wireless whenever im in california.
I tried to volume thing, and that just asks if i want to activate voice dial. I have the S700i and it runs a completely different UI, so im sure in order to find, it you have to try something new.
I am sure Mobilezen will have the info

Cingular uses Tmobile's towels in the east cost and vice versa for the west cost. When I had Cingular, (i'm in NYC) sometimes it would say Tmobile because Cingular uses Tmobile's towels here in the east cost. After Cingular merged with AT&T, sometimes my phone would say AT&T.
My S700i is working great. I don't have any problems with it so far. It pairs great with the TL, without any problems.

Man, I should check up on you guys a little more often. Holiday season is bogging me down. My living room and office look like a dump site with all the holiday festivities. As for the S700i, here are the current firmware versions for the phone:
S700i R3F, R3G, R3H
S700i R3C002 Vodafone
Before you ask about what revisions have been made...PLEASE NOTE that it is one of my pet peeves when people ask me that. With each firmware revision, especially since this is an international phone, there are usually 30+ pages of sometimes minor fixes. Have fun Jon, its a fun phone.

ok i have the same problem.... i'm with tmobile but it says cingular and the store where i got my sim said it can be changed but they have to do it... it doesn't really bother me. About your other problem, when i press talk button, it does take few seconds so i have to say hello 2-3 times.

From the main screen...
Move joystick to Right
Click Star

errr i dont know why it worked this time. ok well under Software info i have a crap load of stuff, but the first line says "R3B032"
Is there anyway i can remotely update the firmware or would i have to send it out?
Also does tmobile have anyplans in releasing this phone, and if so, would they have a firmware released that had all of their stuff in it already?
thanks for all the help

well the phone is in general has its little quarks, that makes it feel as if it isnt a solid running ui. transfer delays from phone to car, occasional random resets... things that never happened on my T68i... i would be willing to send my phone in and have it updated to see if that will fix anything...

Isn't Calabasas just a little north of LA? You could bring it to global mobility yourself. www.globalmob.com. Ask for Sung.

mobilezen: Thanks for the spelling correction. I was in a hurry to leave and couldn't resist replying.
Neogeek: My firmware is R3B032. Looks like we have the same firmware. I'm not experiencing any of the problems you have.

6mtv6: you dont have any delay when you click on the call accept on the sterring wheel? thats my main anoyance with the phone, as i have to keep on saying hello to make sure i know they heard me.
mobilezen: thanks for the link, they are about an hour drive away, and might good for a weekend trip, although 25 bucks isnt too steep, and i wouldnt mind without my phone for a couple days.
i know you hate when people ask you for what the improvements are, but do you have a link to that 30 page firmware release note, or do they not release it on the web. I am very bored, and dont mind reading 30 pages of technical sludge.
Thanks for all your help you guys(and gals)!

I have s700i and the same firmware version as two of you...
It seems to me that all our phones where originally comes from HK...
Yes... There is a delay answering calls... either using HFL /ear piece/ bluetooth head set/ or the phone itself. The delay for me is about 0.5 sec. Right now the latest firmware version is R3G

Sorry I took so long to reply. I forgot about this thread.
Neogeek: Now that you mention the delay, I do have it also. I didn't realize it until you mentioned it. I just thought it was bad cellular connection, like a temporary problem. My delay is about 1-2 seconds when I push the call accept on the steering wheel. I have a 0.5 second delay when I pick up the call through the phone when it's not connected to the HFL. It doesn't happen when I make calls.
