Yeap, best way to go Ading an aftermarket HU is the last thing I would do. I'm not sure about the hi/lo converter. It depends on the amps you're going to use. Here's a simple way to do it...

Stock HU > some type of signal processing (rockford 360.2 or ???) > after market amp > subs

If you are just powering subs with the aftermarket amp, you may not need the signal processing. You can either tap into the bass signal before or after the stock amp. My stock amp has been removed all together.

I did this modification to my 04 TL..I put in an after market Amp with an after market subwoofer. SOUNDS GREAT!

I kept the factory amp and subwoofer in the car..and now i can control my after market subwoofer and the stock subwoofer both with the stock head unit.

I am able to turn the Base down, which cuts low signal to the speakers, bring TEREBLE up to +4,5 which makes the sound a lot more rich, and control all the base with SUBWOOFER option which puts out all the base from both subwoofer.

took me about 8 hrs to install cause i was really taking my time to not F* it up..

you need to run

- a power wire 4 or 8 gage from the battery to amp,
- a ground wire 4 or 8 gage,
- a remote wire to turn the amp on once the key is turned on,
- a pair of subwoofer wire from amp to the sub,
- a high-low converter,
- a pair of RC wires from high-low to the amp,
- and 16 to 18 gage speaker wire to get the signal from the factory speaker or factory subwoofer or factory amp to the high-low convertor.

easy way to do it:

1. Remove factory sub wires
2. Hook it up to a Hi/Low converter (if your amp does not have high inputs)
3. Hook up the hi/how converter to your amp
4. Hook up amp to sub
5. Run power wire from battery
6. Run remote wire if needed.

Suggestions

Was thinking of replacing the factory sub with a free air sub if it would mount right. Don't want the congested trunk look so I was thinking this would be a good option. Also thought about removing the spare and customizing the trunk floor. IDK at this point don't want anything too crazy but a really clean look and sound. Suggestions anyone???? any and all feedback is welcome

i simply ran 4g power wire from batt. clipped stock sub wire from the trunk. spliced an rca to that cable. hooked it up to amp. just get a signal sensing amp so u dont have to run remote wire. worked perfect plus simple install. and can control sub from h/u like normal.

To save some time the remote line, low level inputs, and power (only 15A worth - good for smaller amps) can be found at the rear stock amp.

If similar to the 03 model, pin 2 (orange) is the remote line, 1&6 (wht/grn) are power, and 7&8 (blu/grn org/blu) are the low level + and -.

LOC hi/lo converters add distortion to the signal so I don't use them.

This sounds like exactly what i want to do can you tell me where you get your signal from exactly and where you connect the remote?

The signal should come from the stock sub speaker wires. Connect those to the high-low converter or amp if you amp has Hi level inputs.

As for the turn on wire, I'd use an add a fuse to something in the fuse block that turns on only when the key is on.

yes i just did this last weekend. But only 1 amp

you need a LOC, amp, and sub you want to use.

I connected the LOC to the rear speakers and got the ground, power and remote wire all from the amp. and removed my factory sub. Just need to tune to your liking and enjoy

Yep, just tap into the existing sub wire

Towards the center of the firewall a few inches from the top you will see a black plug about an inch in diameter that you can pull out and run the power wire through.

You could probably use the remote turn on that goes to the stock amp. If that does not work there is an accessory fuse in the box near the hood release. I forgot what fuse number it is.

I just did this a few days ago. These pictures aren't mine they are "deathtotoasters"

It's almost impossible to see it with your front strut tower bar on the car because it blocks your view...

You have to remove your front strut tower bar. In order to do that you have to unbolt the fuse box from the bracket as well as 1 other bracket attached to the rear of the bar.

Also, can someone put a correct diagram of their setup. So far this is exactly what I want to do as well (add an amp to purely power a new sub, and add a subwoofer in trunk).

So far I believe its this way for the setup..

HU > stock Rear sub > LOC > New sub aftermarket amp > new aftermarket Subwoofer

Doing this setup will allow me to control the new aftermarket subwoofer through the headunit under the "Subwoofer" control.

This all seem correct or did I miss something?

As a follow on question - if I just run the stock sub wires into the high level inputs of my aftermarket amp/sub, will there be the same stock HU control of the sub as with doing a low level input from the HU?

If you don't mind cutting wires tap in to the HU signal before the amp. You will still have use of HU control but with much clearer and fuller bass. For best results take advantage of the differential balanced signals going to the stock amp using a unit that supports it and twisted pair RCAs. For sub signal may not matter much.

Color codes are in this thread

3 Bluetooth voice control

I went to car toys to have an amp kit installed and I was going to hook up sub and amp but the installer told me there are 3 micro phones two by the front dome lights and one in back. He said that if the base hits it will volume down if those are not disconnected does this make since? They want 500$ just to install the kit to my stock HU. 4 hours labor to do this. Also any suggestions on aftermarket sub and 6x9s for rear? Please help me out guys thanks.=Persia-TL;11290926]I did this modification to my 04 TL..I put in an after market Amp with an after market subwoofer. SOUNDS GREAT!

just disconnect the ANC module and that will solve the problem. Or you can disconnect the microphones. no to 6x9 in the rear, and no coaxials in the rear either. no real need to do anything to the rear speakers its just for fill if needed. I dont run mine at all.

In doing many installs- No bragging.
You can use the Hi-Level speaker input on the Sub Amp.
Like the Alpine MRV-M500.
And no cap required. Tap on the rear sub (+)(-).
And you can leave the OEM 8-inch sub hooked up if you want.
The Alpine MRV-M500 also has a optional remote Level for
The Amp that mounts my the driver seat. With a good 12"
Efficient sub and a Good box made with 3/4" MDF- Glued-clamped-sealed.
If you want TONS of base get a Bigger amp and 2-12" Subs and maybe add
A cap- Your choice.

The door on the rear armrest can be taken off ( have done it)
Then the bass comes into the car. The OEM sub and OEM Rear
Speakers have a steel frame underneath.

Make sure you ground any amp right next to the amp.
Avoid noise. Ground Loop.
